It's understood that there are places that are inherently dangerous because of the purpose they serve. WHAT were your unsupervised kids doing that let them suddenly pop up in the known blind spot of a fast-moving vehicle on a dedicated roadway so that a nominally alert and cautious driver couldn't avoid them?

Accidents don't happen in a vacuum, but asking what role the non-car caused in a car-to-noncar collision is apparently the same as asking a rape victim "what were you wearing"?

If a kid darts into the road from between two parked cars at 3 feet in front of a GMC Sierra doing 25? They're fucked, there's nothing the vehicle or driver can do at that point.

This is not a fault of the vehicle, it's the fault of a pedestrian who failed to exercise basic caution.


Also, for as "big" as those trucks are? Thanks to extensive use of plastics, aluminum, and metal pressed as thin as they can get away with? They weigh comparable, if not less, than my old 78" Dodge pickup I got as my first car. Aside from the vinyl door panels, dash, and plastic tail lights? EVERYTHING on that truck was steel or glass. Even if today's trucks do ride 3'' higher, they're probably SAFER to operate and would stop from 45 in less space than mine. They also have better brakes, they've got ABS and discs, my old truck had no ABS and drum brakes that were less efficient and, again, took more braking space than a modern Dodge truck.

Really it comes down to an external locus of control. Nothing is a consequence of their actions, everything just happens to them and it's someone else's fault for not meticulously engineering the environment to ensure absolute safety while they helplessly bumble around like NPC animals in a video game.

This is such a common thing outside the USA that I think there’s a deep cultural divide and I don’t know how to cross it. Maybe Europe and South America and Africa and Chicago just gave up, but in all those places the good people who are working/trying decorate the inside of their buildings only and the outsides look like pastel prisons.

It's not about safety. It's about people thinking/living differently than them and their perceived utopia. Trucks and SUVs aren't just less efficient with gas they're vehicles you can use to haul things like fishing boats and campers and horse trailers. Your kids may use one to haul a lawn mower around to do basic landscaping for some cash. They are to bugmen the epitome of independence and also a conspicuous display of wealth because newer models are more expensive than smaller cars and trailers/campers can also be quite expensive. They hate the types of people that would choose these vehicles and they hate the types of activities these people get up to with their bitchin rides.

They are generally used in the outback where there are large distances to support small towns, farms, mines, etc that are away from rail lines(the centre only really has 2 public lines, the Ghan and the Trans-Australia), i.e doing the work of a branchline/shortline train work post the rise of trucking in the red centre, and are pretty much banned in cities, and generally the town centres of larger outback towns.

So unfortunately they they can't eat urbanists because urbanists never leave the city, however their smaller cousin the B-Double can get them, or the true urbanist hunter/killer the Truck and Dog Tippers xD
