I'm a bong. But isn't an "assault rifle" just pretty much a made up term to describe rifles with selective fire? and weren't full autos banned in or around 1994? I can see the benefits of owning a drum mag too tbh, if you enjoy going to the range or what not.. you don't want to be constantly swapping out mags.

If you want to get more specific I guess look at the 94 assault weapon ban, it boils down to the number of rounds it can hold, if it has a pistol grip, removable magazines, collapsible stock, threaded barrel, bayonet mounts, flash hiders. Aside from the magazines and I guess arguably the bayonet mount nothing that actually does anything to a weapon more lethal. You could still have a rifle with detachable magazines though, just as long as it didn't look scary. Certain models of the mini 14 were exempted by name and a mini 14 will do basically everything an AR15 will do, it just has a classy wooden stock rather than blacked out aluminum and plastic
