I thought about as much. The only realistic way to protect yourself from data theft on this scale would be to pay protection racket to one of the "identity protection" companies who check if there is anything new made in your name, but I'm not sure that is even worth it. If all the bad actors have a big cheat sheet now that makes stealing someone's info super duper easy(the initial download with all the info was literally just freely available on the surface web for a time, if I remember correctly, albeit it was a big download), what's stopping someone from putting any random person in debt without them knowing about it? Hell, what's stopping some tranny from using your info to get you in legal/financial trouble so they can shut down Kiwi Farms? Opsec only goes so far when the government does an oopsie doodles.Pass European-style privacy laws that makes data brokering illegal. But the governments actively sell your data in the US. The DMV will literally sell your vehicle information to marketers. Data brokering is a huge industry in the US. The biggest tech companies all do it. It won't happen. They'll just keep making cute little carveouts for federal employees like they already do. Only judges and congress are illegal to databroker.
For something as big and potentially threatening as this, I'm disappointed(but not surprised) there isn't more discourse surrounding it. It will be memoryholed, but every American's info might still as well be public for how easy it is to access, and we're still using a retarded, antiquated 9 digit system for our most important dealings that's also public now.
My fear is that we will see the same kinds of retards who were involved in TORswats doing the same live ruination shit but instead of calling the police they will put people in debt or falsify crimes under people's names to get them in trouble, all without them even knowing about it until it's too late. This could be used to target anyone from the sektur nobodies to culture war persona-non-grata personalities to political opponents, or just some random guy who told an obsessed tranny that he will never be a woman. Don't forget that AI voice synthesizers are a thing now, so they can use your info AND fake your voice on the phone too. You think some retarded government drone is gonna tell the difference or ask questions if all the answers check their marks?
