Sounds like a win if they no longer want to work on games any longer. We need to go back to the glory days of heavy gatekeeping in the gaming hobby and industry.
Finally some good news, but only for a bit. In reality, these posts were just a way to garner some easy sympathy points. Everything these people do is performative. They fully intend to continue working in the game industry.

Concept artists don't usually design the characters for projects like this.

Sure, if you look at a studio like Blizzard and Samwise, he built up rapport when it was a small company and they trusted him to call the shots.
These artists seem like they were directed to make awful shit - especially the 3d artists. Like they cook something up, present it for feedback, and iterate it based on the art diector's directive afterwards.

There's no way in hell this is the last time we see this game, they'll come back and try a f2p model that will peak at maybe 5k players tops and slowly drop until the next content injection that'll make 4k players return and a bunch of slop youtubers will make videos about how the game is good now, repeat for 2 or 3 years until the game is shuttered completely.

You know, it hasn't happened yet, nobody's openly doing it.

But some cynical number-cruncher is going to start to toy with the idea of provoking game journos some time soon. As long as you thread the needle of not seeming like you deserve the reaction - and these people will overplay it - you can basically get them to signal-boost your game for free. And if it's a good enough game, people will check it out just to spite them, and maybe play it anyway.
It sort of already happened with Hatred. Being controversial and having a "there's no such thing as bad publicity" attitude made them a bunch of money for their first game. Destructive Creations is still around making games and recently had their 10 year anniversary.

My main gripe and why I didn't buy it is I don't like isometric shooters. If it had been an FPS I'm sure it would have been a fun play for at least a few hours, not Postal-tier but pretty good. Of course, I don't really have a problem with ridiculously edgy games. I think they can be kind of amusing.

Incidentally the Steam forum is ripping the shit out of this. You don't need to be logged in to read it.

Much of the top thread is stuff like this.

The worst design out of all of them in my opinion is Bazz. That character looks genuinely scary to me for some reason. My skin crawls when I look at him/her/whatever.
The tranny who it was based on, seemed VERY proud of it.
Of course he is also a freak who made this abominable video
So its actually pretty accurate to be scared of it. You picked up on basically a digital version of a physical skinwalker.

It's not even like people have never done "inclusive" stuff well. Look at old Valve games like HL2 and Portal. HL2 has Alyx, a mixed race woman who isn't unrealistically like a supermodel, is actually competent and effective, and has a personality beyond "me mixed race." This was also at a time when most NPC companions were a nightmare because you had to escort them somewhere and they were continually trying to commit suicide in absolutely retarded ways.

Alyx is everything the DEI retards say they want, but apparently not enough.

Then Portal, where the only two major (living) characters were female other than the absolute idiot Wheatley and Doug Rattmann, who may or may not be alive (but is probably dead).

What are the 12 people even doing there? Having a chibi-esque memorial service for the game? LMFAO
Idling at the title screen (forgot to close it, etc.) or a pre-game launcher binary that got "stuck" running even after the game closed and the idiots didn't flag that binary as "this isn't actually the game, Steam, trust us" so it wouldn't get counted.

Like, say... Overwatch?

I guarantee you the first-drafts the concept artists presented were in that similar vein, because when you concept for a massive corpo, you stick to what works. They were likely guided to draft up ever-stranger things, and... well, eventually, the iteration gets you what we got. There's so much that just confuses me. The cactus-man, the guy with the revolver - his outfit is just not something that anyone who went through art-school would, of their own volition, design.
