When corpos hear “sex appeal” their mind immediately goes to “slutty female characters” (a reflection of their own unconscious preferences, perhaps?) What they don’t understand is that it’s broader than that. A character, for one, doesn’t need to wear a bikini and boob armor to have sex appeal. I bring up Apex again, aside from Loba which is obvious, the most fan favorite characters (and the ones that have the most porn, I’d imagine) are Wraith and Wattson. You’ll quickly notice neither is really provocative, they’re just pretty girls with personalities that particularly appeal to the modern gamer man, almost stereotypically so: Wraith is an edgy Big Titty Goth Mommy, and Wattson is an adorkable autist (no, really.)
And secondly, on the complete flipside of what I said above, no one seems to ever consider male characters, which is kind of ironic since they’re trying to be marketable to women.
All these characters sold insane numbers within the female demographic in the last few years. The amount of downright thirst and obsession can be terrifying to someone who has never been a woman in fandom culture.
None of them are offensively scantily clad, oiled up and brainless. They’re just attractive men with interesting personalities and traits that generally appeal to women. And in the case of Arthur and Leon, they’re cool so guys like to play as them as well.
Which speaking of, doesn’t even compare to the absolute insanity that is the female CoD fandom. For fucks sake you don’t even know what the faces of half of them look like, they’re dressed in normal combat gear, and women are still horny over just their body, voice and personality. Just look at the comments on this video.
TL;DR you don’t need your game to look like Dead or Alive for sex appeal. You need characters that are fit and have faces that aren’t disgustingly ugly (so like, the basic traits humans find attractive on an instinctual level.) They don’t have to be supermodels, they just need to NOT BE HIDEOUS TO LOOK AT. The sex appeal comes from their personality and how they carry themselves. An uninteresting, ugly DEI insert is just as bad as a vapid anime girl with huge tits and no personality. It’s just that one of those things has a better crutch and therefore manages to actually sell.
No. I don’t know if she’s identifying as trans or enby or what, but regardless she’s a true and honest woman. Even voiced some magical girl characters in dubs if I recall correctly
