Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

It brings me sadness to report that James Earl Jones has sadly died today.

May the force be with you with God.

I am very sad James Earl Jones is dead. he was a real one.

But I am going to be very honest because there is zero chance anyone who actually knew JEJ in real life will be reading this: He was past his prime for Vader in RotS. I don't want to say he was phoning it in because he was very clearly doing his best, but he clearly was having issues with the more velvety parts of his VA work for the past 10-15 years. And I am glad Disney has one less desiccated husk to trot out to try to shill their shit product.

RIP, poor old guy. Free from Clown World.

Can you imagine what it'd be like to be born during the Great Depression, live through the days of WWII, witness rapid technological change and major historical events (such as the moon landing), and then in your latter years you see this world decay into insanity?
And now Disney/LucasFilm will use his AI voice to say "Lord Vader says trans rights".

This feels even worse since from all the gameplay footage I've watched there's just nothing to do and no choices to be made. Starfield, as flawed as it is, definitely is a better foundation to build a Star Wars open world game off of.

I have played a bunch of Ubi-Soft games and they all seem variations of the same thing. The last Assassin's Creed I played was set in Egypt, I never finished it but I had so much for for years going back and just going around hunting, exploring and doing missions. It was well done. Even the last Far Cry I played set in some cult town in America. It had 3 sections. I did one but it was a full and detailed experience. There's really no excuse for them to fail so badly with a Star Wars.

I don't really know how Outlaws ended up so awful unless they left finishing the game up to interns, or dramatically cut the budget to finish it halfway through production. Ubi-softs entire thing is pushing out massive games with endless things to do. That tend to just work.

MeToo and DEI happened. MeToo got rid of the creatives and the DEI got their own division that oversees every studio and every project.

It's one of those things I understand the argument and explanation but I am too far removed from actually knowing. I can totally believe that a lot of the grunt work by these studios has been done by nerdy men who have played a lot of video games. Know what games have done and can do. Where they now usher in newer people and want more diverse hiring and end up with people who are very casual gamers. Haven't actually played a lot of games and so don't understand that it's not up to standard.

I'll give you one better - can you imagine being a black man in the United States, back when racial segregation and persecution were still very much a reality? Working your behind off in order to achieve something in life, in order to rise up above petty stereotypes, gain respect and acknowledgement of your talents? And then, in your older years, you witness ghetto and gang culture slowly dissolve your communities into brainless, crime-ridden, welfare-addicted sludge?

God rest his soul.

Darth Vader, Thulsa Doom, General Solomon, the list goes on. Man's a legend.

I'm pretty sure people already thought the world was insane during the Great Depression and WW2. I mean, right before and during WW2, superpowers were throwing people into gulags by the millions, and before the war, the economy in the West went to shit, the Japs went crazy and started war-criming their way through the Pacific, millions of people were beginning to lose faith in Capitalism as a system, compared to that shit, today's events are a joke.

Games like that, like Skyrim, were made 10-15 years ago before DEI and MeToo were a thing. So people who honed their craft got to create the product they wanted, without some overbearing blowhard telling them that their women are too sexy or that their game is too hard.

Well then, the short answer is that gaming has been declining for over a decade because they stopped being creative. The long answer, they went from copying whichever blockbuster earned the most to bringing in worthless college graduates whose degrees were all about bitching at the world for not being feminist/SJW enough. All the nerdy men and women who actually cared about video games were either shitcanned or were forced to stick to a script; that script being A) don't offend the alphabet people, and B) make sure you add things that pander to stockholders like microtransactions.

This ugly marriage of greed and liberal preaching created an industry that is now on life support, with AA and Nintendo holding up what's left. AAA is dead, console markets are declining, PC piracy is becoming the norm as DRM makes games unplayable if they're not online, and the odd gem that passes through, like Witcher 3 or Space Marine 2, are overshadowed by the metric shit-ton of bad investments and decisions like Dustborn, Concord, and yes, even SW Outlaws.

There are three reasons I will not play Star Wars: Outlaws

  1. The game looks like shit
  2. Has a female protagonist that looks and sounds annoying.
  3. Ubisoft has an unhealthy obsession with making games that are better off as linear progression games into bloated, bland, and undercooked open worlds such as Ghost Recon: Breakpoint
I would rather played Force Unleashed and that 2009 Clone Wars game than Outlaws.

I remember when the reveal trailer was released and I saw the protagonist and was instantly disappointed. The commando droid sidekick seemed like 5x more interesting. I would like for once for an alien or even, god forbid, a droid to be the default.

Playing a Wookiee sounds really fun.
