Sony hate thread

Sony lost Zaibatsu status a while ago when they sold off the Chemical , Production and Insurance portion of the company. Moving to America and handing the keys to Americans really didn't help.
Not really. Sony still has a minority share of Dexerials (previously Sony Chemical). As for their insurance stuff, in 2004(?) iirc they did a corporate split and formed Sony Financial as a holding company, which was an amalgamation of their insurance, banking, credit, and venture capital divisions, and I think you're referring to this split as the "sell off," which is kinda accurate, but Sony still was a majority shareholder. In 2020, however, they bought out the other shareholders and took it private, so Sony Financial is actually a wholly owned subsidiary now.

As for production, I don't really know what you mean, but Sony has always maintained ownership of Sony Simiconductor, which produces over half of the CMOS chips on the planet.

Just the thought of paying for hardware that does non of that in that price range gives me a headache, like you have to be unironically medically brain damaged to come to the "conclusion" that you are going to pay for this.
Not to sound racist, but there are people that would pay top dollar to slant their wheels or buy big ass rims that spin when they stop. A fool and their money are soon parted. A gaming crash cannot happen soon enough.

It's pretty funny how this leak, from back in April, actually turned out to be true, but omitted the price and lack of disc drive:

A month after rumored specs went online, The Verge claims that they have obtained a full list of official specs for the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro console and confirmed those rumors were accurate.

Sources familiar with Sony’s plans indicate to the outlet that developers are already being asked to ensure their games are compatible with the upcoming console which is rumored to be launching around year’s end. No word as yet when we’ll see a reveal of the console with a first look not expected for months, and officially Sony has not yet acknowledged the existence (let alone the specs) of a PS5 Pro model.

Codenamed Trinity, the PS5 Pro will reportedly include a more powerful GPU and a slightly faster CPU. The upgrades are all about hitting higher resolutions and frame rates along with better use of ray tracing with more use of the latter actively encouraged.

Additionally games will be able to use a ‘Trinity Enhanced’ (PS5 Pro Enhanced) label if they “provide significant enhancements”.

GPU rendering is expected to be around 45% faster than a standard PS5, and the new console boasts faster system memory to help improve ray tracing in games. Ray tracing on the new console is tipped to be up to three times better than a regular PS5.

The CPU has only a modest boost – a standard mode the same as a PS5, and a ‘high CPU frequency mode’ which sees a 10% increase (from 3.5Ghz to 3.85Ghz), but also results in the GPU being downclocked by around 1.5%. Memory is being upgraded from 448GB/s to 576GB/s, whilst games can use an additional 1.2GB of system memory on the PS5 Pro.

Existing games are able to be patched for higher performance and all copies of games need to work on both models. Sony expects games submitted to certification in August onwards to be compatible with the PS5 Pro.

Sony also is including PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) support – essentially their answer to Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR to improve frame rates and image quality via “custom architecture for machine learning”. The new solution replaces a game’s existing temporal anti-aliasing or upsampling implementation. Full HDR support is included.
What a stupid, stupid situation.

You know, I'm certain they were expecting a total renaissance with the PS5, with the PSVR2 and Concord both becoming runaway successes, in the minds of those Silicon Valley retards who think everyone in the world thinks exactly like they do. But no, those were two major flops, both from this year alone. If the PS5 Pro doesn't sell well, and I'm sure it won't, it'll be extremely funny, and very interesting to see which direction the PlayStation brand goes after this.

I think your wish may come true. Profligate and brand-obsessed though they may be, I just don't think there are enough niggers to prop up the entire console gaming market by themselves.

sony when announcing ps5pro...

A refresh in theory would be fine, since performance has been a constant issue with consoles forever. But then again, there is almost no point in owing a PS5 if you have a PC. The only two somewhat decent reasons would be backwards compatibility with the PS4 and having a majority of Vanillaware games. Imagine announcing a more powerful console, and you have no games to showcase the use of your new system. Oh well, will probably sell a good chunk and be profitable, so what do I know.

I give Sony the next PlayStation before the console market drastically changes in a decade's time. I'm hearing Xbox is considering leaving the console market after the Series successor.

It's not for PC gamers. Almost all Sony exclusives are going to PC in a year's time. Sony PlayStation is a vanity brand at this point.

As has been said before, performance will always be an issue because console developers will always, ALWAYS prioritize visual fidelity - even irrelevant, imperceptible visual fidelity - over performance. Even the Xbox Series S is a damn powerful machine that devs really ought to be able to get good performance out of, but here we are.

Imagine announcing a new "more powerful" console version that doesn't even upgrade the shit cpu that currently bottlenecks the damn thing.

Here's what it looked like for the quarter ending June 30. Still with financials, etc. I think the spin-off date is for 80% in 2025.

I was wrong and acting like a retarded sperg, thank you the reality check and for the accurate information!

Yeah, I was alluding to that a bit, though I understand why people still prefer consoles. As a main PC player, I am glad that Sony is finally releasing stuff, but no point in buying a plastic box anymore.
Has Sony unlocked some sort of black magic that is allowing them to not sell these systems at a loss now?

Good point, but I would be surprised if a Pro model is drawing in new people into the ecosystem. I would have guessed that it is mainly for people who are already pumping money into Sony's pocket.

True, the sixth console generation was probably the last time when there was a good middle ground between fidelity and performance. Sometimes.

lol didn't really pay attention this time to the specs since the Pro model is useless, but good to know about this shitshow.

I remember reading from some Soyny fanboys talking about how Xbox series two skus makes it harder for developers to develop and optimize games. Now PS5 has two skus with the Ps5 Pro release in November.

Yeah but GPU number go up.

Jokes aside, the vast majority of casual gamers have no idea what the fuck this means. Earlier in the thread I was shitting on Sony for still using HDMI 2.1 on this monstrosity in The Year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-four, but then I realized that nobody that owns a PS5 will ever need to daisy chain a fucking thing, and that swapping to DP 2.1 would be completely pointless.

Just remember, your average console gamer is going to be less technically savvy than DSP.

They kept Zen 2 for compatibility reasons. But if they clock it 8-10% higher or whatever, e.g. 3.8 GHz instead of 3.5 GHz, I doubt it's going to bottleneck many games from getting to 60 FPS.

The PS5 Pro will seemingly stick with the Zen 2 architecture on the CPU — at least, Cerny made no mention of any CPU upgrades. That may allow PlayStation to better maintain backward compatibility and save on costs, That's not necessarily a bad thing, as the CPU generally isn't holding back performance on the PS5. There could be a shrink in the process node, from the original TSMC N7 7nm-class used on the PS5 to a more modern TSMC node like N5 or even N4P. Sony hasn't provided any details on this aspect yet. If there's a node shrink, which seems probable, it would bring some power and efficiency improvements to the table, allowing for slightly higher clocks on the CPU.
