The debate format is so fucking gay. In my perfect world, the candidates would just sit down for a few hours, talk it out and reach some synthesis.

I guess my other complaint is that Trump completely fumbled this direct interaction with Kamala re: Project 2025. She opens with "this man is going to tell you a lot of lies" and then accuses him of being behind Project 2025, which he has denied several times. He's then face-to-face with her and denies it. She brings it up A SECOND TIME in the debate and Trump fails to immediately say "STOP. Did you not hear or understand me when I just told you I am not behind Project 2025? Who is the liar here?" Wasted opportunity.

I was worried that Zognald Drumpf would not pledge the first born males of every American family to defend our greatest ally against the forces of anti-Semitism. I dropped out the debate a little before it ended and I have everyone did terribly, neither candidate would respond to simple yes or no questions, Trump seemed a bit out of it and would give slightly incoherent responses, while Kamala was trying her damnedest to get a one-liner for a political ad, and don't get me started on the moderators they seemed more interested in cheerleading for Kamala, whenever she said something that was lie such as the "Very fine people" hoax they didn't debunk.
Overall this debate was shit and the fact this maybe our only debate between Trump and Kamala is a disservice to the people.

I'm hold off judgement until the second debate. In my experience the smart play is to hold back for round 1 and go all out in round 3 (round 2 in this case). Trump had no incentive to go scorched earth this time around and likely walked into this knowing ABC would be actively covering for his opponent. This is the same playbook that both he and Obama used in 2016 and 2012 respectively.
If he underperforms in round 2 I'll change my mind but at this point I think his main goal was to lull team Harris into enough of a false sense of security to commit to the second debate, and he clearly accomplished that. He held his ground enough for it not to be disastrous, in the short term Kamala will get another bump in polling but the election isn't being held tomorrow.
