Protectionism ends up being nothing but a "poor tax". The result is that people who can't afford the more expensive goods that are now being produced domestically basically get nothing.In what way? I mean the establishment ones are dead set against, the sane ones, the ones not working for a big business and elite world that hates them, are somewhat warmer on them. (not enough though)
If your goal is for domestic citizens to produce more goods and have more domestic manufacturing jobs, the smarter path would be removing regulatory barriers and tax barriers that prevent them from doing so.
