There is a good point that being somebody "you are not" is tiring and will eventually kill what relationship you do have. How often do women complain he suddenly changed for example. I would say instead is "be who you aspire to be". Be the best version of yourself that is still yourself. Another way to phrase that is "be yourself on your best footing, not in chill mode". If she likes you she is also putting forward her best footing and you can both take it down a notch together.

He was running in the Reform primaries in 2000, but withdrew. Pat Buchanan went on to become the nominee and at the time the Reform Party was an absolute joke. Buchanan's faction comprised of the Republicans who thought Bush wasn't conservative enough and a warmonger, and you also had commies and even David Duke in there at one point.

I distinctly remember him first running as a Dem in either 2012 or 2008, perhaps he publicly made a statement but didn't actually run. The interesting thing though when I went to look it up:

This is, ultimately, my point.

The raid on Randy Weaver was completely unreasonable and absurd, to say the least. However, Randy Weaver agreeing to make illegal shotguns is what ultimately started the whole chain of events.

The raid on the Branch Davidians was completely and totally unjustified. The BDs never bothered anyone, complied with the laws, and were cooperative with all local authorities. The ATF was in the middle of a PR nightmare because Congress was sick of their absolute horeshit and about to end the entire bureau. They needed something to make them look useful. So, they literally made shit up, killed a bunch of weirdos, and covered it up.

In fact, the lore goes, Bill Clinton was shocked at the whole thing and Hillary Clinton (plus Janet Reno) were the ones who told the feds to "finish it" and then clean up after.

So those feds who messed up went to prison right?

Nope! One of them is now the 86th US Attorney General.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Democratic party's policies don't matter, the entire DNC could come out in favor of abolishing gun laws and going full 2A complete with full support for private militias tomorrow and their voter base would continue voting blue, no matter who. If Donald Trump switched to the Democratic party, he would win in a landslide with MSNBC and CNN swinging from his nuts. The letter next to the politician's name is all that matters.

My perspective is skewed from growing up in a Blue State but it does really feel like it's only the Democratic voters who dream of a 1 party state. Which is the most baffling dream I think one could have.

I don't want a Blue or Red State, I want my state firmly in purple. I want the elected politicians always worried they could lose if they piss off their constituents. The only time it makes any sense to be happy with a congressman who is in office till death/retirement is if they've reached a leadership position, and that's because senate leaders have more power to pork barrel your area. Is that selfish? Of course but you take any advantage you get in this life.

I've seen leftists dream for the death of the GOP countless times. Rarely have I seen a conservative do that. Countries where one Party is in control seem worse for it, the Tories had control of the UK for 14 years and it fizzled out with a clownshow of short tenured PMs.

The other disturbing trend with Democratic faithful is that they really get off on the fantasy of politicians succeeding via nepotism. I can give them a break for loving Hillary Clinton because at least Hillary won a senate seat before a presidential run. But there were so many who wanted Michelle Obama. Say what you want about Big Mike but I don't think it's good for country to inevitably see political spouses as King and Queens.
