Fun fact, this cat was previously discussed in this thread: https://kiwifarms.st/threads/massiv...by-animal-rescuers-put-on-strict-diet.199762/

He was stuck between a rack and a hard place.

A fat cat’s attempt to escape a diet center backfired horribly after the flabby tabby got trapped in a shoe rack.

The feline, named Kroshik (Russian for “Crumbs”), was discovered by staff attempting to break out of the center in Perm, Russia, where he had been sentenced to a strict workout regimen and food rationing, Newsflash reported.

Photos show the corpulent cat — who weighs almost 38 pounds — wedged between the bars of the shoe shelf with his face stuffed in a bright blue Croc.

A vet holding Crumbs. “Kroshik’s story is an extremely rare case when someone loved a cat so much that they fed him to such a state,” explained a spokesperson for the Matroskin Shelter in Prem.

“Kroshik… he caused a ruckus and escaped today,” rehabilitation expert Ekaterina Bedakova wrote in a Sept. 11 Telegram post.

“He was extremely displeased when we found him disguised as slippers, but… after a portion of food, he mellowed out.”

It’s been a long road for Crumbs — named for his ability to hoover up food — who was first discovered a week ago in the basement of a Russian hospital.

Staffers had reportedly fed the portly pet a diet of cookies and soup, which caused him to balloon up to a scale-shattering 37.47 pounds — so heavy he couldn’t even walk.

For reference, most domestic cats should weigh around 10 pounds, health experts say — though size can vary depending on the breed.

In an attempt to get Crumbs down to a normal weight, shelter employees put the mammoth feline on a pound-shedding pilgrimage that included a new diet and regular treadmill workouts.

For the latter exercise, they put the puss in a water tank to lessen the strain on his joints, as seen in photos of him reluctantly walking on the subermeged contraption.

Employees even shaved Crumbs’ tummy to make him easier to dry following his aquatic aerobics sessions.

Fortunately, vets are positive about Crumbs’ new routine. Under this new health regime, they predict that the plus-size couch-scratcher will lose between 70-50 grams per week.

In fact, Bedakova suggested that Crumbs’ ill-fated escape attempt was actually a good sign because it demonstrated that he’s a “very active guy.”

It’s the feline equivalent of a deathfat lol it’s cute and funny when it’s a cat but other cats probably think he’s repellent. The look on his face in that water is funny
I’ve never seen a cat make “whale eyes” like a dog before. He must feel horrible all the time.

Why is the side of its body shaved?

Also, that poor cat looks miserable in every photo its in.
The poor thing is in a prison of fat, regular is 10 pounds and he’s 38 pounds?

He’s having to exist with and have the strain of 2 or 3 other cats worth of weight on him.

Fat humans are funny, stop being fat and disgusting, eat like a normal human and move around. It’s self induced misery.

A fat animal, that evokes the same feelings as those psychos that torture cats with firecrackers but arguably the suffering stops sooner for the poor firecracker cats.
The cat will eat whatever’s put in front of it and keep eating like a goldfish.
Cats will overeat to the point that they vomit, then start wolfing down again. Their own little Roman feast (plz don’t sperg about vomitoriums at me).

The people who turned him into being trapped in a cage of fat and ruined his organs…..it seems very appropriate for them to have a combination veal/foie gras punishment.
Then they’d know what confinement and being stuffed like a turkey to the point of death is.

I wish Crumbs the best in hydrotherapy, he could lose a lot of weight that way that won’t be as hard on his tortured joints.

Can you even switch up diets like that cold turkey on a cat? I know it's not good for a cat's stomach to give them different foods too quickly, and you can't tell a cat "you're too fat and you're going to die of heart failure if you keep going" just like you can't tell a dog to stop gnawing at an injured leg.
I suspect they are giving him actual cat food now, and not biscuits and soup like he was having in the hospital basement. Probably either once a day, or a single packet/tin split into a couple of meals, so he thinks he's getting a lot of food but it's still just the one packet.

Cats generally won't overeat if they have a lot of food at once, that's what dogs do. Eating cookies all day is high in fat and you know he wasn't out terrorizing the neighborhood (and getting exercise).

Maybe this is again American fat problem, but it’s not uncommon at all to put cats on diets and controlled twice a day feeds.
These are the gorgers, had one myself at one point.

If I free fed that cat she’d constantly overeat, so it was diet time.
