Irons should just be co-witnessed anyway. Maybe overkill on some mouse gun like a .380 auto or .32 acp. Even on something as small as glock g43x it is pretty nice. There is definitely a learning curve to effectively using a rds on a pistol but when you do, it's superior.

I use irons on my revolvers and .45. For 9mm I use a red dot. I have no idea why, maybe the recoil being less, but I cannot use iron sights on them.

I'm good with irons, but I've won multiple state level invitationals with a dot. Also lost embarrassingly at the national level with a scope so I went back to the dot

Modern dots are just ridiculously good. 50,000 hours of battery life that only counts down while you're carrying it because they automatically turn off on your nightstand and so low profile that even if it refuses to turn on you can still see your irons anyway

That's pretty much me too, but I know why at least. If I'm shooting a revolver or a 1911 I'm just shooting for the joy of shooting, if I have a flyer or god forbid miss a shot there's no stakes, I'm just having fun. I have a few 9mms that I also just enjoy shooting but the 9mm that I shoot nine times out of ten is my carry gun and that's not one I want to miss with
