Null is smart enough not to do the exact thing his enemies are trying to force him to do. Quick question, what if you zeroed in for much further out. Obviously he just forgot/didn't know that fact. But what if he overshot zeroing in instead, not to sound like an African but I feel like you would want to go for the highest number if you're assuming youre going to be very far away

AR15s are basically fully semiautomatic deathlasers that can explode a body into meaty pulp at 600 yards what are you talking about zeroing it in for different ranges nobody does that its a weapon of war meant to kill it will kill right out of the box even in the hands of an untrained shooter

for a slightly more serious answer I think the best option for Crooks, assuming he just got lucky and didn't know exactly from how far away he'd be shooting, would be a Primary Arms LPVO for something cheap, or if he had some glowbux a nice magnified prism. The crosshairs on these have multiple reference points that are designed in a way to help you estimate distances by comparing the size of the markings to the width of the target's shoulders and generally you can buy one that's 'calibrated' for the trajectories of popular calibers, like .308, 5.56, and 7.62x39/300BO. You zero them at 100yards/meters and then the other markings are automatically really close for 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 yds/meters

25 yards is definitely a short zero for a rifle, it's more appropriate for a pistol, and more something you'd do for a competition gun where you know you're going to be shooting at that range
