This video went viral recently. I don't think it's been posted here. It features six young women in an office setting, each dancing in turn and repeating a short sarcastic description of themselves. You might know it as the "
Gen-Z Boss and a Mini" video. Volume warning:
It's a little cute; a little funny. I post it now because I saw something recently that blew my mind.
Who decided what each woman will say? The answer, apparently, is that
the other women wrote these descriptions.
Apparently, this is a """team building""" exercise where they all write things about each other, then put them in a hat and mix them up, then someone reaches in and picks one, reads it, the others guess the target, and which ever descriptions get the most laughs, that woman has to read in the video.
I was convinced that this is what they're doing by the inclusion of "with a sneaky link" - apparently, a "sneaky link" is when someone is fucking a coworker and keeping it secret. Now, this is an office full of women so of course they gossip and they all know that she's fucking Dale from down the hall
...but she wouldn't say it herself. It'd be super cringe to say that out loud about yourself. Think about it. "Describe yourself in a few words."
Oh i'm fUckIng DaLE iN thE suPPly CloseT LOLOL - that's not gonna happen. However, if there's a game where the point is to describe your coworker, and everybody does know this thing about you, and it's pulled out of a hat and read aloud, "this person has a sneaky link" all the hens in the office will erupt in laughter and scream, "OMG THAT'S TOTALLY KAREN!!!"
So what's my point?
Well, now that we know how the descriptions were authored, it's a fascinating peek into how women self-organize their hierarchies. Some of the descriptions are entirely 100% positive, some are genuinely funny,
and some of them are downright mean.
(1) Gen-Z boss and a mini. I've seen a couple of people who don't get why it's not "Gen-Z boss
in a mini" - the answer is, each woman had to write 5 descriptions and put them in a hat. The group then selected the best two of the five for the victim to read.
The first girl might have gotten these descriptions: gigantic forehead, great friend, gen-z boss, always late, wearing a mini. The group selected "gen-z boss" and also selected "mini" - notice how both of those descriptions are entirely positive. It's what every Sex and the City girl dreams of: a boss and a babe.
This girl is clearly at the top of the pecking order.
(2) Itty-bitty-titties and a bob. Women get very self conscious about their tits, so whoever wrote "itty-bitty-titties" and put it in the hat was being pretty catty. The other description is neutral. I think this girl is near the bottom of the hierarchy.
(3) 5'3" and an attitude. The first description is neutral. Women don't care about being short. The second is positive; having an attitude is adjacent to being a girl boss. This girl is probably number 2 in the pecking order.
(4) Secret product and a trench. No idea on this one. Two neutral descriptions. In the middle, I guess?
(5) New Frank Green and a sneaky link. The "frank green" is a water bottle. A neutral description. Calling her out for being a slut is a little catty though. Someone wanted to put her in her place. I think she's right in the middle of the hierarchy too.
(6) Fake tan hands and a hoop. The fake tan remark is the meanest one here. I think this girl is at the bottom of the hierarchy. It also doesn't look like she wants to participate, which makes sense if the others are bullying her all the time.
Anyway, that's all I got. Oh, except that someone made an AI version that satirized how women are playing these dominance games while the world outside burns.
