BEIRUT, Sept 17 (Reuters) - More than 1,000 people, including Hezbollah fighters and medics, were wounded on Tuesday when the pagers they use to communicate exploded across Lebanon, security sources told Reuters.
A Hezbollah official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the detonation of the pagers was the "biggest security breach" the group had been subjected to in nearly a year of war with Israel.
Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah have been engaged in cross-border warfare since the Gaza war erupted last October, the worst such escalation in years.

The Israeli military declined to comment on Reuters enquiries about the detonations.
Iran's Mehr news agency said the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was injured by one of the blasts. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report.
A Reuters journalist saw ambulances rushing through the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold, amid widespread panic. A security source said that devices were also exploding in the south of Lebanon.

At Mt. Lebanon hospital, a Reuters reporter saw motorcycles rushing to the emergency room, where people with their hands bloodied were screaming in pain.
The head of the Nabatieh public hospital in the south of the country, Hassan Wazni, told Reuters that around 40 wounded people were being treated at his facility. The wounds included injuries to the face, eyes and limbs.
The wave of explosions lasted around an hour after the initial detonations, which took place about 3:45 p.m. local time (1345 GMT). It was not immediately clear how the devices were detonated.

Lebanese internal security forces said a number of wireless communication devices were detonated across Lebanon, especially in Beirut's southern suburbs, leading to injuries.
Groups of people huddled at the entrance of buildings to check on people they knew who may have been wounded, the Reuters journalist said.
Regional broadcasters carrying CCTV footage which showed what appeared to be a small handheld device placed next to a grocery store cashier where an individual was paying spontaneously exploding. In other footage, an explosion appeared to knock out someone standing at a fruit stand at a market area.

Lebanon’s crisis operations center, which is run by the health ministry, asked all medical workers to head to their respective hospitals to help cope with the massive numbers of wounded coming into for urgent care. It said health care workers should not use pagers.
The Lebanese Red Cross said more than 50 ambulances and 300 emergency medical staff were dispatched to assist in the evacuation of victims.

Hezbollah fired missiles at Israel immediately after the Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas gunmen on Israel. Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging fire constantly ever since, while avoiding a major escalation as war rages in Gaza to the south.
Tens of thousands of people have been displaced from towns and villages on both sides of the border by the hostilities.

From OSINT

What we know so far:
- Explosion happened simultanously
- Explosions didn't only happen in Lebanon, but in Syria too so it's a long range to be wireless detonation signal.
- The pager is 'Rugged Pager AR924' produced by a Taiwanese company
- Small Li-Ion battery, can't explode that big
- None of the pagers caught fire, which is common incase of a battery 'explosion' rather they just exploded.
- However the pagers did heat up before
- All exploded pagers were the same model of pager.
- The pagers came from one shipment

Also pretty shitty headline considering this was an attack that could only hit Hezbollah members

Video of the attacks

Another article on the pager explosions has been released. It has a number of interesting claims in it.

The beepers apparently were ordered from overseas and somehow were tampered with before arriving to Lebanon. An ounce or two of explosives were implanted next to the battery in each pager and a switch was also embedded that could be triggered remotely. At 3:30 PM in Lebanon the pagers received a message that appeared to be coming from Hezbollah leadership but instead it activated the explosives in the devices. They beeped for a few seconds before detonating.

The organization doesn't really use cellphones much out of concerns of possible Israeli surveillance so this is sure to rattle them. Lebanon's health minister said as of this time 9 people have been killed and there are more then 2,800 injured.

Terrorism is the deliberate targeting of CIVILIANS to the exclusion of combatants. This went out of its way to avoid anyone who was not an unlawful combatant, by literally blowing up devices only an unlawful combatant (a terrorist) would even have a reason to have.

It's not like they put them in baby rattles. They put them in a specific shipment of devices purchased by a terrorist group to enable them to coordinate their terrorist attacks, because fucking nobody uses pagers. Almost every person (or maybe even every person) who got one of these awesome party favors got it to help them participate in a terror network.

You know, like the ones that would probably, if you're a Westerner, massacre you in a mass attack at the next sporting event you attend, if they got the chance, just because you're white or whatever. Actually just because you're in that particular arena.

Hezbollah confirmed in an earlier statement that the deaths included at least two of its fighters and a young girl.

It doesn't make sense for Israel to detonate all of these at the same time with the innocent and collateral damage it would cause (even by Israeli standards), I really think they fucked up.

They don't care. They are currently in the process of killing every single Palestinian man, woman and child that won't leave Gaza and have now started killing anyone who helps them fight back.

They'd airstrike the Red Cross/Crescent and blame them for fraternizing with terrorists. You are witnessing a full mask-off military campaign by a nation that simply doesn't give a fuck anymore.

You do realize that October 7th was an inside job, right? There is no limit to Israeli sadism. They gladly sacrificed their own to make sure they had pretext for levelling the gaza strip and shooting anything that moves inside of it. They have the unquestioned backing of the world's largest war machine behind them and will never face any accountability. This is a drop in the bucket for them

Israel has openly stated that if Hezbollah attacks them they will turn south lebanon into rubble. Until we reach that point it's not mask off

Inshallah the Americans will eventually stop protecting the Jews and Iran will finally be free to wipe these bastards off the map. Future generations will look back at all of this and wonder how we ever allowed Israel to exist in the first place. I truly believe Israel's creation and existence is the greatest failure of mankind in recorded human history. This cowardly attack is further proof of that.

I would simply not be a retard launching rockets at civilian areas.
Cool. Tell that to the little girl and handful of dead civilians who died to get those two dead terrorists. Doesn't even try to sort through the maimed that were actually targets.

More importantly, I'm sure you will look at second hand pagers in the thrift store a bit differently from here on.

The videos of the maimed show that they are all men wearing street clothes. Most if not all will be Hezbollah.
