This consent decree thing is similar to a trick they used to prohibit the right from ever fighting back against election rigging until... recently, when the judge that did the decree gracelessly expired. He was literally coming out of retirement once a year to extend it forever. IIRC, that consent decree was something prescient to t he current mess, too. Nope. There was no such thing as "atheism" among Ancient Greeks. Even Socrates performed sacrifices to the gods. What's interesting is that everyone knew there are no gods on Mt. Olympus, it was a common tourist destination even but atheism as we know it today didn't really exist back then.
The earlies example of a modern atheist I know is some medieval Belgian polymath who got a lot of flack from the Church. Don't remember his name though, sorry.
