Tucson Trump Rally Sparks Backlash, Mysterious Illness

Rally goers met with hateful rhetoric and unexplained chemical burns to eyes

By Christy Kelly, September 18, 2024 9:06 am

Last week, former President Donald Trump held his first post-debate rally in Tucson, a predominantly left-leaning city. The event took place at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall, drawing attention to Trump’s new policy announcement and the controversy surrounding the rally before and after.

Before the rally, Pima County Supervisor Adelita Grijalva sparked backlash by posting a profane sign on social media. The sign, which read “F you MAGA, no more Orange” in Spanish, was captioned, “Welcome to Tucson.” At a subsequent Pima County Board of Supervisors meeting, constituents demanded an apology from Grijalva. However, she stood by her actions, stating, “I’ll acknowledge wrongdoing when Trump apologizes for the racist, misogynistic, sexist, inflammatory comments he’s made about women, people of color, LGBTQ…”

Grijalva wasn’t the only notable Tucson figure to oppose the rally. Music legend Linda Ronstadt, whose name adorns the venue, also disapproved. Taking to social media, Ronstadt criticized Trump for holding the event at a building associated with her legacy, stating her deep opposition to his policies.

While the rally drew a large and enthusiastic crowd, it ended with an unexpected turn of events. Approximately 20 attendees, primarily members of the “Latinos for Trump” group who had been onstage, reported becoming ill with mysterious symptoms shortly after the rally concluded. All those who reported falling ill were seated on the side of the stage where Trump made his entrance before approaching the podium.

Pastor Eli Moreno, who opened the rally with prayer, and his wife, Francesca Moreno, were among those affected. Pastor Moreno said that he experienced mild discomfort, but his wife’s symptoms were far more severe. On their drive home, Mrs. Moreno’s nose began to run, her vision blurred, and her face swelled up. They stopped at a Walgreens and encountered another rallygoer with similar symptoms. Mrs. Moreno stated that emergency room doctors flushed her eyes earlier and referred her to an ophthalmologist. Five days later, she was just beginning to feel better.

Mayra Rodriguez, another attendee, also fell ill 30 minutes after leaving the rally, experiencing burning eyes and a severe headache. By the time she arrived at the emergency room, she could no longer open her eyes. After performing a dye test, the doctor informed her that she had suffered a chemical burn. Days later, she continued suffering from blurry vision and light sensitivity.
Several other attendees shared similar stories with The Arizona Globe. The reported symptoms, including blurred vision, severe eye pain, and facial swelling, appeared roughly 30 minutes after the rally ended. One attendee used milk to ease the burning before heading to the hospital, while another reported his face turning red and peeling. They stated that the emergency room staff told them they were not alone—multiple patients from the rally had come in with the same complaints.

The Arizona Globe contacted the Tucson Police Department and the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall for comment, but neither has released a statement.
Danielle Alvarez, Senior Advisor to the Trump campaign, addressed the situation, saying, “The Trump campaign has been collecting information. We remain committed to the countless patriots that attend our high-energy, high-impact rallies across the country.”

Indiscriminated terror attacks on political venues? Yeah, the US is done for
People are saying, holy shit, this might have been a third attempt on Trump's life.

Based on the described symptoms, I think the attackers used chlorine. You know, like that guy on /k/ who thought mixing vinegar and bleach in his bathroom would be a good idea.

The Rubicon has been crossed, unhinged leftists saw how easy it is to get near Trump since the secret service deliberately refuse to protect the former president because they want someone to kill him are incompetent and how the mainstream left continues to state that Trump is a "threat to democracy". We're going to get consistent Democrat terror attacks and assassination attempts on Trump and his supporters until the election, and after, even if Trump loses.

Trump is a retarded fat faggot. But can someone please explain to me how there are constant near successful attacks on his life without coming to the conclusion that the feds are letting it happen. I'll wait.

I always looked at this quote in tentative agreement, and I still do to some extent, but I dont think the sheer implications of it really set in for me until recently.

I sincerely hope this is all a stupid hoax, or someone did something particularly retarded, because that would honestly be better than a fucking chemical attack.

N4T Investigators: Several Trump supporters seated on stage during Tucson rally experience eye injuries

It's a mystery at a Donald Trump rally that left multiple people with eye injuries and few answers.

The News 4 Tucson Investigators spoke exclusively with six people who were seated on stage behind the former president during his rally in Tucson last week. Three of them agreed to on camera interviews.

ll of the people we spoke with experienced eye irritation and sought medical attention.

One of them is Mayra Rodriguez, who became a prominent figure within the Republican party after becoming a Planned Parenthood "whistleblower."

Rodriguez used to be a Planned Parenthood Director but made a notable transition into a strong pro-life advocate and supporter of Donald Trump.

Rodriguez said her presence behind Trump at his Tucson rally was ironic because she was seated behind former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton during an event in 2016.

She told News 4 Tucson's Chief Investigative Reporter Chorus Nylander that she enjoyed the rally but started experiencing severe eye issues after leaving.

“As soon as we left and we stepped outside my eyes were burning," Rodriguez said.

At first she just thought it was allergies.

She lives near Phoenix, which is about a 90 minute drive from Tucson, by the time she arrived home she said she decided to go to an emergency room.

“The emergency room staff, from the triage nurse to the PA [Physicians Assistant] asked are you sure you didn’t get sprayed with something your symptoms look like you got sprayed with something," she said.

The N4T Investigators spoke with her on Friday the morning after the event, she was nearly blind.

“I can’t see anything when I try to open my eyes. I see a bright light. It hurts, it hurts a lot to open my eyes. I have this cold cloth I put on and take off constantly. It's horrible," she explained.

She said the doctors were not able to pinpoint exactly what caused her injuries. Her vision has started to improve as of Tuesday so her blindness does not appear permanent.

Her initial thoughts of it being allergies seemed to go out the window when she started to hear from several other people that were seated near her at the event, reporting they too suffered eye injuries.

The N4T Investigators spoke with a brother and sister that were seated near Mayra, they did not want to be identified.

“It kept getting worse and worse, my eyes were watering a lot, my nose started running then I started feeling my face get really flushed and my neck felt like it was on fire and it just progressed from there," the sister said.

Her brother told us, “It was all focused on my eyes, my eyes were red like hell you know, it's unbearable. I couldn’t handle it.”

The other supporters who did not agree to on camera interviews told us about very similar injuries. One woman who is a local realtor said she had to cancel all her showings over the weekend because she couldn't see well.

Rodriguez said she reported her experience to the Trump Campaign and was told it was investigating.

On Tuesday after repeated inquiries from the N4T Investigators Trump Senior Campaign Advisor sent us the following statement:

“The Trump campaign has been collecting information. We remain committed to the countless patriots that attend our high-energy, high-impact rallies across the country.”

The U.S. Secret Service tells us it was not made aware of the situation but said there was no known threat to former president Trump.

The News 4 Tucson Investigators will update you as we learn more information.

The lack of any kind of odor being mentioned by the supporters affected, the fact the aforementioned supporters were in some kind of cluster near one another, the chemical burn symptoms the and the comment that it seems like something that would result from being sprayed by some kind of substance makes me wonder if some kind of weak acid was used for this.
