it really piss me off how they reduce marcille's desires to be all about falin. Her very first goal was to bridge the gap between the different human races so that none has the power over the others. And while her primal motivation was to keep her loved ones by her side, that includes laios and the others members of the party, not just falin. She doesn't even single out falin or anything. It isn't about "falin and the others" but every single of her friends individualy. Her desires are enormous and complex which is why the lion took an interest in her in the first place. If her desires could be summed up by "I wanna save my gf ;_;" the lion wouldn't have given her a second glance.

These are the same people who go on and on about the value of different kinds of relationships and queer platonic polycules and found families or whatever. Yet the only thing they care about at the end of the day is who's fucking who. To the point of them seeing close friendships as basically confirmation that those characters are gay for each other.

This is an issue with fandom in general though, where they basically stop caring about the actual story being told and just project what they want onto it.

I want to believe its a localization thing, with how much they love to add or change stuff, Like how Marina was really sassy and almost straight up an asshole to Pearl during the news in Splatoon 2, while she wasnt like that at all in japanese. The localization team had to apologize and do her closer to how she originally was moving forward.

Some people say in the Japanese dialogue she uses a self pronoun thing used by "gender noncomforming" people/characters. But honestly for me thats weak evidence. If true it just means she's kinda a tomboy at most.
Hell, from what I seen, the Japanese fandom Refers to her AS a female.

I think even the devs (at least, the English translation team) have reduced her character down to her relationship to Pearl. In the Grand Festival promotional stuff, such as the music video for Three Wishes, Marina's solo has her singing the following:
I've been searching, all of my life, / Finally I've found my north star.
My heart's synched up, a satellite, / Orbiting wherever you are.

It's a stark contrast from Octo Expansion and even the news dialogue in Splatoon 2. At least there, Marina had the chance to expand upon her own interests and such without constantly going on about or to Pearl. Which is funny, because in both settings, she was mostly talking to Pearl. Now, in Side Order, where she has constructed the entire thing and could talk about anything or even try to catch up with Acht... she just doesn't. And it's so weird.

Has anyone posted about "xeno inklings" yet? I feel like Kiwilurk might've. The whole idea behind them is more monstrous looking inklings/octolings, with different artists having different reasons. A lot of them go really far away from what an inkling or octoling is supposed to look like, so at that point, just make it your own species/race rather than bastardizing Splatoon lmao.

Most who are into them are SJWs in some capacity anyway.

I've seen the same thing when it comes to a trans woman in some overly sexualized outfit. You get handmaidens that talk about how beautiful and stunning "she" is, and in arts I've seen its men getting horny over "her". If this was a real woman the art would be considered misogynistic and appealing to the "male gaze". I really wish I saved this art, but there was an artist who made their own AU of the South Park kids as adults, and one of the couples in the AU was Kenny and Marjorine (Butters female persona) . I swear to you compared to the actual females like Wendy and Bebe the artist oversexualized Marjorine's design by giving "her" giant breasts and a giant ass. Even in a beach artwork of the adults I swear to you (no joke) they gave Marjorine a two piece bikini where you can literally see pubic hair. I'm thinking if this was an actual woman this artist would be called out for oversexualizing a character, but because said character is trans its ok. Mind you that the artist was a TIF.

The continued cycle of artists and them unintentionally stereotyping characters via race will never not be funny.

That’s what really gets me with this kind of art. They don’t realize that what they’re doing is stereotyping in the worst possible ways and genuinely believe they are doing A Good Thing.

When people rightfully point out that, for example, Willy Wonka reimagined as a person of Chinese descent, evokes some horrifically inappropriate/offensive comparisons (as someone pointed out above. And you can easily sub the Oompa Loompas with Uyghurs or impoverished sweatshop workers), the artist goes on the attack either out of genuine delusion that the people are actually The Racist or they have enough self-awareness to know their Wonka is an offensive stereotype in a lot of ways but don’t want to admit it and instead, project it onto the people who pointed it out in the first place.

My stance is that diversity and reimagining a character (whether it be canon or fan made) to a different ethnicity is not a problem in of itself, but bad attempts at it that end up as caricatures and stereotypes is.

Case example for a positive: Hunk in the recent Voltron cartoon was reimagined as a Pacific Islander, but he wasn’t given a lei, ukulele, and reduced to a stereotype. That’s how you do it IMHO.

Oh they love "straight" ships alright. One thing I've also noticed is that when its a trans man (aka TIF) and a woman (or vice versa with a TIM and a man) they gush over it like its the best thing ever. This is how you know the whole "trans women are women and trans men are men." slogan is bullshit. If they really believed a trans woman was the same as a regular woman then why don't they find that "straight" couple boring? What exactly is unique about it? Its especially funny when the TIM in question acts like a stereotypical woman. Whether its a story of them being a princess getting saved by the male or the TIM being the stay at home "mom", if this was an actual woman these people would call it boring or even sexist.

What is with this artist and giving everyone POC palms? Rouge, Silver, Espio, fucking why. That's not how it works! Being slightly darker than Caucasian doesn't mean your palms just loose all their melanin!
Like, sure Cream is at least black mixed (and fucking how) but even with that she still doesn't have a skin tone that'd result in that contrast. The artist clearly knows that too because they didn't change Amy's palms despite both of them using almost the same color, and they're both a darker shade than Silver!



Speaking of the POC palms it's almost kinda weird to see Charmy without them when you're looking at him in contrast to almost everyone else on the lineup

Upon witnessing this debauchery of such 'idpoleon tardification it was so revolting to me that it compelled me to find palette-cleansing counter examples of these so called "turn of the century gijinkas" the artist claims these characters are supossed be that reinforces the recognizable of these characters which is the entire point of doing this creative excercise in the first place.

You get the Idea at a single glance I shouldn't have to do a fucking double take when I look at iconic anthro characters interpreted in the gijinka style. It should be *BOOM* *SNAP* " " [Insert anthro character here] as a human looks cute/cool!" not *confusion* *stammer* "O-oh that's supposed to be umm [insert anthro character here] as a human?"

TL;DR
Appealing character designs retrofitted with unappealing character design traits should be done with merit or purpose e.g Parody (Think Tamers12345, Tails Gets Trolled, or fucking Aspergchu) Take the appeal away without that and what do you have left? Just an OC cosplaying (to varying degrees) the character rather than being the character themselves.
