Weightlifting for Kiwis - Discussion and support regarding the art of swole

Can you imagine
>200lb OHP
>not even 2pl8 on bench
Genuinely, I'm wondering now if such a bizarre outlier would even be physically possible
theyre both dog shit, but i meant frequency. my presses all suck because of a shoulder tear from when i used to swim.

hit squat for 285x8 after being sick for a month. next week is 300xamrap10 i guess. Id like to hit 5-6. Think that trends towards like 375×385 1 rep max but i havent done the math yet. my cardio is shit so sometimes things that arent that heavy for me i still cant do many reps with. like 10
I used to lift in a crossfit gym id go to late at night. tons of space, nicely organized, nice equipment and empty.
Now im at a chain gym with loud annoying music and a million people. its a little more difficult to relax and breathe and get heart rate down before next set.

Yeah I worry about this a lot too. There's a great independent gym right by me, but the owner is getting old and I'd be surprised if he's still running it in 10 years. Now that I don't live in the city there's a lot of 24 hour gyms around here, but none of them are literally two minutes away.

I don't want a home setup because I'm antisocial enough already. People who want to talk at the gym constantly are gay and annoying but it's nice to go to a completely separate, dedicated place for lifting.

i made fun of manlets because they were always angry and loud and i had somewhat of a retard believe that height doesnt matter
once i encountered irl height discrimination i stopped doing that shit so why do you attack me for that? i already said its fucked up so whats the purpose of you doing a purity check on my poast?

Aye, shit happens sometimes
Never been to a crossfit gym but from what I've heard of them they tend to be pretty solid, even in spite of all the shit that tends to be said of crossfit as a whole.
Cardio/work capacity is a huge factor when it comes to high rep work, especially on squats. Was in the same boat once to the point even 3x5s of a heavy set would have me winded in the past. During last year when I was most consistent, something that personally helped was alternating on squats between 3x5 on working weight and 3xAMRAP a bit below that working weight, where I'd usually manage sets of 6-8. Applying this to the GreySkull program I modified meant squatting every single session, and it helped a shitton.
This also meant days where I would deadlift first and then go straight into AMRAPing on squat, but I simply did not care and pushed through it regardless

I felt the retarded need to whiteknight for short people. It was a lapse of judgement on my behalf.
Forgive me.

site doesn't let you reply to long posts. not sure how long they need to be exactly. you can highlight parts of the post and quote them tho.

For guys who are taking creatine, have any of you suffered from terrible stomachaches from taking the standard 5g amount? I tried taking it this week, but it's just given me bad stomachaches all day. I was thinking to try creatine HCl instead of monohydrate, since it supposedly isn't as hard on the GI tract, but I don't know how effective it is.

You just gotta adjust. Happens while loading it. Once you're saturated after a few weeks your GI should adjust, but if not, make sure you got good Cre. The cheaper stuff is cut with bullshit sometimes. Also try going for flavorless if you're not and just mix it into water/protein shake.

I had issues initially and it was the flavoring from some garbage i got from Amazon. Switched to this stuff and I've had no issues.

same. I've been driving to the gym for so long that its part of the process/ritual/whatever now and just walking to the garage to lift doesn't seem like it would feel right. Plus having to clean and move all that shit around in a garage is not fun.

Anyone here get carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms (hands/wrists going numb) after increasing workout sessions?

I had to quit going 3/4 times a week due to numb arms preventing me from sleeping. Now I only do 1 day a week (back workout only) which seems to help.

Only thing I can think that would be causing it is just somehow related to is the fact that I have slightly rolled forward shoulders and or cannot do a pull up. Any help or speculation would be appreciated though. Thanks.
I had a similar problem, but it wasn't carpal tunnel, it was a rotator cuff issue.
I fixed it by adding in more overhead exercises, and pull ups. Also stretching with a band.

Eta: well, I was hella late, but I'm glad you got it sorted.

Just finished a few months on keto, and have lost far too much weight, so I'm going to hit the gym doing the 531 BBB challenge.
I did this years ago and put on 20kgs of muscle in about 4 months.
Of course, I put on a bit of fat too, but I really like keto,so I can slim down pretty easily

What kinda stretches? I was already starting to suspect it may have something to do with my shoulders latety.

Basically these.

I used to work construction and damaged my shoulder so badly that I had to sleep on my right side or ud wake up with burning and numbness in my whole left arm.
Massage really helped, but then I went to a physiotherapist who prescribed those exercises, plus also hanging from a pull up bar, and doing waiters carry.
I haven't had an issue with it since.

It's a pretty common issue from what I've heard. Are you taking it on an empty stomach? Because that can really aggravate it, so try taking it after you've eaten something in that case.

Do more expensive gyms have a) less of the rowdy riffraff crowd and b) more available equipment? Been going to an LA fitness in my city and kinda getting annoyed by basketball americans leisurely crowding around the stuff I'm trying to use.

Depends on the area but in my experience no, the people paying for the fancy shit treat it like a country club and practically pitch tents there to justify the expenditure. Conversely I've been to Anytimes across the country and they're almost always empty unless school's out for a break.

I will be in my forties soon, feeling tired and sleepy these recent months. Just a normal lazy office lady living in the city.
My husband bought 5kg dumb bells so I have been stealing borrowing to do some dumb bell exercises like hammers and bicep curls every alternate day.
Managed to do 3sets of 12 reps recently.
any advice for weight-lifting to maintain/retain muscle mass for those past their thirties?

Your best bet is probably finding a hole in the wall powerlifting or bodybuilding type place. The type of place where you can get to know the owner and get a key for 24 hour access if you’re not retarded and have a basic respect for the space and its equipment. You don’t have to be a serious bodybuilder or anything to train at one of those gyms, nobody will give a shit if you’re a pudgy desk fag, they just get equipment and set up an atmosphere for that specific type of training.
