Hurricane Helene / Invest 97L

The Patients were probably evacuated to Hospitals in Charlottesville and Richmond most likely.
No, nowhere near that far. Most of them were taken to Johnson City, TN.

There's no dramatic footage, but another hospital in the area was evacuated in Elizabethon, TN
Sycamore Shoals Hospital evacuated 39 inpatients amid flooding.

This footage and the pics, especially of the people affected, are horrifying and sad beyond measure

I sincerely hope that everyone makes it out safely and that the Coast Guard gets in there and brings people out safely as well (I know a guy I grew up with, preschool to the present day, who's a... LT? In the CGs and I sure hope he's okay)

I hope that everyone grave dancing, here or anywhere, fucking stops and starts feeling empathy again for their fellow fucking human beings regardless of (political, sexual, etc) orientation

And I hope that any failure by governments, be they local, state or federal, gets outlined harshly and that we all remember them in a couple months

That's doesn't even just suck. This dude that's been doing this for 15 years now is out of a job and there's literally no way he can recover all of his work equipment. I mean, I'm grateful (and him moreso than me) that he's alive, but that's gotta sting quite a bit.
Yeah, it's his entire life. His entire collection, everything he's worked for...

A good portion of my area is pretty much shut down due to what were merely Helene's "gifts". It's insane how much damage was done. I am mostly uneffected. Still have electric, a house, and none of my food has gone bad. Feel kinda guilty about it.

Also, the storm last night has turned the yard into a wonderland for my dog that loves finding new ways to piss me off when she needs to poop. Sticks everywhere. Come on over if you need a stick. They're free.

You can, but you'd be doing it for no reason. Most people would rather not have other people's stuff float away and their house destroyed even if they had their own destroyed, only in fits of anger do they consider it (or if they're a selfish narc). This is just a good time to count your blessings and be grateful for your good fortune, and all you can do is help out if you have the time or resources to spare.

It's a natural human reaction to feel like that. I'm even getting it in an area hardly affected by the hurricane - it just means you have feelings for other people and aren't a heartless douchebag. Feel bad for a bit, but do your best to get yourself at peace and focus your energy on other things.

At least she's having a good time. Good girl. :)

I see you decided to start collecting a bunch of negative stickers and people telling you to go fuck youself for cheering on random people getting their lives uprooted or even ended by a freak of the century storm no one knew how to deal with. Weird choice, but I'll help.
I think it's funny too when commies in Asheville get BTFO by mother nature, especially since if they hadn't infested the area to begin with then they'd be laughing with their fellow coastal elites at all the flooded out MAGA people.

Blogpost by Thomas Witherspoon, who lives pretty much in the center of the devastation in North Carolina.

This was literally the only good thing about the old style geostationary sat internet like Hughesnet/Viasat. Everything was completely fucked around me for 2 weeks in an ice storm. No power. No cell service. But I never lost my wonderful 700ms ping internet because the earth station that was feeding my bird was multiple states away. IIRC they also had a backup they could point at it from Canada.

It will be interesting to see how the Starlink LEO service worked out on such a wide spread disaster. That network uses more earth stations closer to the customer.

Operation Airdrop now staging at Concord Regional Airport (Charlotte metro). Volunteers, pilots, and vital goods needed.

I will try to make a better organization list, but it’s still the fog of war and I don’t want money/material going to the wrong places out of a hurry. I will update more tomorrow as best I can.
Thanks man appreciate it.

These floods and debris flows literally act like tsunamis, Jesus Christ. It's a miracle the guy in this video is alive.

Late, and while it might not look like it at first, this video actually perfectly shows just why a flood like this in Appalachia is so dangerous. It's the geography itself.

Appalachia is nothing, but heavily forested mountains, and hill with the cities, and towns located in the valleys below them. Water naturally follows the path of least resistance. What is the path of least resistance? Straight down those mountains, and hills, and into the valleys.

How do you get out of the valleys? Up through the mountains, and hills. But you can't because now all the roads through them are raging rivers. You're basically trapped.

Most people are just used to seeing floodwaters on a flat plain, or on the coast, but when it's up in the mountains? It's a whole 'nother beast.

The lack of reliable reception in many parts of the region increases the danger. You're fucked if you need to call 911 in a holler or even just the wrong part of a building. It seems to have gotten worse since 2G and 3G were shut off.
