Vance was running against Tim Ryan who spent the entire spring and summer of 2022 pretending to be aligned with Trump voters, while Vance was taking a summer vacation taking the race for granted, and that was alright because Vance managed to win anyway. That's why he underperformed the R's running in Ohio with him, partly because those R's were incumbents going up against no-name D's who weren't on the airwaves. Tim Ryan was the only statewide Democrat running tons of commercials, putting up signs, messaging to appeal to Trump voters, and Vance didn't really do anything all summer 2022. That explains the underperformance.

But in 2024 Vance isn't taking this race for granted. He didn't take a summer vacation like in 2022. Out of the four figures in 2024: Trump, Kamala, and the minnesota molester, JD Vance has been putting the most work in when it comes to traveling and answering questions from the media and from voters in a sharp attentive way.
