One Piece - I'm Gonna Be the Pirate King!

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I'd say that applies more to Doffy's crew than himself. Doffy was a beast, yes, he folded pretty quick to gear 4, but he took a lot of punishment to reach that point. The mingo pirates on the other hand, outside of Sugar, were not particularly threatening.

A lot of them you just see it in their design, they are old and fat and got complacent in their status quo. All of Baroque works felt like a threat in Alabasta, in Dresrosa only Mingo was an actual threat. That probably adds to why the arc feels like it drags, Mingo is doing a lot of heavy lifting while his crew is taken out by "nobodies".
I liked his crew a lot more than, say, whatever losers CC and HJ had in the arcs before it or the losers they are facing now on Zou. Gladius, Lao G and Baby 5 were fun side-fights and, while not worrysome in any way, Frankie's fight with the hard-boiled baby was good fun. Flag-guy was okay but that shit with Rebecca going "oh no" for seemingly hours need not have existed. Her and daddy should have just fucked off after the toys became human again. People would have left the arc liking them if that was all they did.

I do like that the entire arc can be summed up as
Doffy: We win if you guys don’t do anything.
Crew: Ok
Doffy: WHY DID YOU DO THINGS!

Not really, Doflamingo had planned for anything the SH (with the exception of Ussop) might throw at him. Sabo, Ussop and Fujitora were the spanners in the work he did not see coming. Sabo switched position with Luffy (Doffy could not see that coming as he did not know they were brothers and thus he assumed Luffy will fight for the Mera Mera no Mi till the end), Ussop was trying to make Sugar pass out as opposed to kill her as it was originally assumed (and her being scared to unconsiousess was never part of the plan to begin with) and Fujitora was looking for the opportunity to sabotage the Warlord system (he had no reason to assume that Fujitora was this hostile to him).

I do genuinely like how competent the side characters were in Dressrosa. I think Hajrudin was the only non-SH to ever take out an enemy elite, right?

Didn't...Reject Dial man kill one of the priests in Skypeia?
Big Mom turned Page One into Page None during Wano
and Drake beat Appoo right?

Edit : Technically Franky was not a Strawhat at the time that he beat Chappa.

I haven't read the whole series recently, it's entirely possible I'm wrong.

Not saying you can't like them more. They were oozing personality and I loved Lao G, Trebol and Senior Pink, but they are clearly in their fat Elvis stage and it shows.

When I read it initially I was pissed since it took the attention away from the straw hats, but rereading it, I'm fine with the SH alliance getting their moments. Sai being the greatest winner by netting himself a lovely wife in the process.

Also, Hajrudin took out Mach Vyse but took insane amounts of damage, Barto took out explosion man (most forgettable of the Mingo pirates), Cavendish I think fucked Deringer up, Sai beat Lao G. They handled most of the secondary big wigs of the family.

Not really. Nearly every fleet captain of the SHGF won against an elite of Doffy and that was just Dressrosa. There were others too in different arcs. Wiper in Skypeia, Vivi in Arabasta (does she count?), Franky too in Water 7 as he had not joined yet, Brook in TB (not joined yet either), Jimbe in Marifort, Law in PH. It goes on but you get the picture.

My god what a fun chapter!

The faces and reactions when they noticed how they had taken out a few gods already was great. And Luffy just going straight at it and the rest of the crew except Zoro panicking was a nice one to see as well. I don't expect "the sun god" to last more than a chapter or two, looking forward to see how they wreck his shit. Still convinced that the cat is a Zoan with a Lion fruit, so I expect it to be more relevant. As for our sun god, my guess is it will be Loki, but who the hell knows, could be a spindly manchild.

So what happened with the TCB buyout/rebrand? Have they just not updated the website yet?

I would be glad to be rid of TCB tbh. Mostly really good translations, but I hate groups who think they "own" series, especially big ones like One Piece (see Ragnarok/OPScans vs TCB). I don't care if it hurts your bottom dollar, I don't want to support your piracy enterprise. I just wanna read a reasonable TL early, and the official Sunday.

Calling it now. The secret to the Giant's warrior code is autism. How else are we going to explain the legos?
Looked more like Minecraft to me. Think his kids got into it at one point?

Also if that's the "country" for the sun god including a "temple", that would suggest Elbaf may have hosted Joy Boy at one point and built him an area to live/hide in. It's such a weird enough place that I could see him having it built because Nika wanted it that way.
