Troon horror is a "manmade horrors beyond my comprehension" kind of horror, like Frankenstein or Godrick the Grafted or Jurassic Park. "They were too preoccupied with whether they could that they never stopped to ask if they should" sort of horror, the kind that gets the better of its human designers and in its disaster, exhibits the hubris of mankind.
Is the motive behind troonery really Promethean, tho? I don't think so. It's a ritual of humiliation and debasement, masquerading as modern science. Robocop Veterans with Darpa sponsored robotic limps are promethean, man made horror. They try to make 'em better than before, alleviate suffering which is caused by the same technical progress which is now larping as it's own antidote. Everything will get better until everyone is a machine man. cue chaplin.
But dissecting a sixteen year old boy's dick and testicles from his crotch to then invert the skin flaps which are left into some fuck-pocket for men to wank into seems very much like something the eldrich gods whispered into some faceless, robed fishperson's ear. Infact, sexual mutilation IS an ancient horror, as are countless other body modifactions which basically just degrade the target organism's function. Frankenstein's monster was better than before: Lumps of dead body parts to living, tormented person. Hey: living = good, dead = bad. Or take the inventors (I think there's numerous quotes on that form a few people of that time) of the machine gun, some actually thought automatic weapons would actually end warfare because it was so destructive, that surely nobody would just send human wave after human wave charging into it's muzzle - also very promethean, warfare is better than ever now, but EVERY aspect is "better" than before. Troonery is just mutilation, for mtfs there the kinda wonky idea of "twinkdeath", so you are tricked into thinking it's that eternal life/youth/beauty thing, but that is cope and not the real reason they do it, because no gay guy really thinks middle aged guys are ugly, 'cept for the uggos. It's just insanity, driven by primal fear (like fear of growing up or fear of being ignored and unseen) and primal ape lust running amok.
Literally the eldrich horror within. Lovecraft projected the ancient turmoils and horrors of the lizard brain onto the canvas of outside things he couldn't grasp because he was kinda sped but his work lived on and outgrew him because monke brain limits hit everyone sooner or later.
So, kinda disagree. Again, this shit wasn't even unheard of before the industrial revolution, it was just even more crude and gruesome. It's not something that is the by-product of progress, it's entirely regressive and, if anything, these people feel compelled to do it, not because the didn't stop to ask themselves why but because they actualy feel obliged to do it - take all these transparents signing up their kids for srs: "I want xyz to be a normal girl/boy."
