Weightlifting for Kiwis - Discussion and support regarding the art of swole

You're probably already bigger than me lol, but I've had success with basically the 4 day split ~6 days a week (which includes a dedicated cardio day). I'm almost two years in and got complimented by a gymcrush this weekend, so I'll take it.

I could probably go harder for strength and do fewer days, but I think diet and consistency are responsible for 80% of my gains.
Diet and consistency are the absolute greatest factors by far, it’s not even close.
You could have a program ordained to you by the Lord to be perfect for your gainz, if you don’t follow it it won’t do anything much. But if you just did pushups, pull-ups, and squats every day in your room and ate well you would look great and be much healthier.

Lift before work if you can. It'll def help you cruise thru the day and you can't skip it since it's like step one of day to day shit. I am a die hard early morn lifter for a lot of reasons.
I really wish I could make myself do this, but I cannot get up early enough, so I end up working out at like 5, and it's awful.

Do more expensive gyms have a) less of the rowdy riffraff crowd and b) more available equipment? Been going to an LA fitness in my city and kinda getting annoyed by basketball americans leisurely crowding around the stuff I'm trying to use.

Yeah, typically the more expensive gyms will have better clientele for the simple reason that it costs more and selects for people willing to dedicate money to working out. Most of the cheap chains like Esporta and LA Fitness turn into de facto social clubs for criminal riff raff because its ten bucks a month to lounge around with free TV and A/C, they don't really care. (Also a lot of those cheap gyms will partner with the city to offer vouchers for 'at risk youth' to get memberships to 'keep them out of trouble'. Waste of tax dollars, rope is a lot cheaper and permanent solution.)

Once the membership fees get a bit higher you hit people with actual disposable income, that don't have time to make the free weight zone a social club, better places to be than the gym, more professional attitudes, etc. You still run into the occasional Tiffany trying to hold 6 machines for a circuit or meathead trying to sublet a bench, but typically that is the outlier, not the norm. Even these unusual, annoying encounters aren't as stressful or tiresome as a pack of chimps or spics, of course.

As for the equipment, the answer can be yes - it depends on the gym. Some places are more spa and pilates than they are plates and benches. I can think of two pricey gyms around me that are opposing extremes like that, so you just have to see what the gym is like with a tour. On the whole, however, the more expensive gyms are larger and usually have more equipment with better maintenance. So the overall availability trends in your favor there.

Outside the gym I like to try and figure out how to superset pushup variants with each other, and something I've noticed recently is just how incredibly well fingertip pushups go with anything else. The reps I can get out with any other variant that follows remain almost completely unaffected.
Otherwise, I like ordering it in a way where I follow a harder progression up with standard pushups, serves as a good filler

or is it for cosmetic gay poses?

I simply train because I hate being weak
Been needing to put on more mass for a while now, so for me it'd be a mix of power and pump/hypertrophy

I weight to the gram everything I eat before cooking it .been following a high protein whole food diet for 5 years. I do 1h20 4x a week strength training+ 10k steps 6 days a week.

am I crazy?
nah man you're just dedicated, what scale are you using? I like to weigh my breakfast to the gram but my cheap scale has a margin of error of 1 g and it sometimes pisses me off in the morning

Strength + health + sublimation of rage + cultivating self-worth + a sense of control + replacing vices + socially acceptable self harm + L + ratio.

Although the bigger I get the more people seem scared of me and leave me alone, so I guess there's a cosmetic incentive in that regard.

Orthorexia is a thing. But there are worse things to be, and plenty of them.

Strength, routine, and dealing with the absurd amount of energy I have to get rid of every day to be able to sleep.

Recently it's been socialization too since I'm in a blue state that's near a college and since the end of covid the gym's been one of the few places that's completely and utterly devoid of histrionic political stink since everyone there's more focused on actually training and having a good time than arguing about politics.

am I crazy?
Nah, but I'd suggest not worrying about the measurement to that extent unless you're doing a serious cut or doing some form of experiment where you need that level of precision to judge your results.

OMG that explains why I saw a bus drop of a load of black teenagers off at my LA fitness. Anyways I'm already signed up for a tour of a much more pricey club, hopefully this makes things better lol.

Honestly just doing it for the love of the game mostly, but my workout recently is structured to retain muscle mass as I cut. When me and my girlfriend started our relationship together I was 225. Just lifting like nuts and eating whatever I could shove into my mouth. It was fun as hell, but caused some complications like being a fatty. I decided to cut weight so that I could look good for her and I. So far it's been pretty slow cut which is good I'm sitting at 200. Goal is to be 190.

If one is born as a male, at least once in his life he will dream of becoming the strongest man alive.

Today was my first day back in the gym in maybe 12 years. I mostly kept it light and got acclimated to the layout and machines at the gym. I stopped at every tricep and back machine and got 3 sets in and I'm sore as shit. I was originally planning on 4 days a week in the hopes of getting my wife to go 3 days a week, but I might shoot for 5+. I miss this feeling.
