FEMA has been hollowed out, and funds have been diverted from it for years.

Every time there was a spending bill to shore up FEMA funding from around 2019, it was voted down. Almost every fucking time.
Biden has asked for an emergency session to release more funding, and Mike Johnson is saying no. The simple truth is that political games are happening in Congress around FEMA. it sucks, but it is what it is.

I will power level slightly as I've spent a good portion of my youth around that part camping and those are some scrappy take no shit people. Had a buddy who lives there who got out tell me a FEMA officer may have already found out as one of the local police might have extended said FEMA officer some southern hostility for being a arrogant prick towards the locals and hindering S&R and aid.

Can somebody explain why this is still ongoing? just cut a freaking road, put the wood harvesting addons on the 2 leading rescue trucks and have a couple of guys with chainsaws in front. we did that multiple times for forest fires and flooding, its get tricky if the way is to steep for the guys with the chainsaws but you can always ride on the front of the truck, there are 2 steps on the older ones and 4 steps on the newer models, not comfy but perfectly safe.

Cut a road, where? In the worst hit areas on one side you have a 5ft drop or more to a river, on the other side you have heavy forest on a steep grade. Where does a vehicle fit in this situation? People have been using horses and mules or helicopters to get to the most isolated places instead of bothering with the road idea. To get a proper road you'd need a team to clear the vegetation, then dig a flat-ish grade to drive on, all while making sure the earth won't fall out from under you and put you in the river that's like 10 feet away

At least part of the issue is that you don't want to be the asshole filming these people in the worst circumstances of their lives. Obviously it's important to document, but I get why people might not take that step and turn the camera on. But yeah, until we get some actual footage of this chicanery, it's all just rumor.

The GoFundMe is nearly at 100K. It just raises all sorts of red flags to me with all information being 2nd hand with no proof given so far. Maybe she is genuine and will send the money there, but it's a hard sell. The stuff about children coming out of the bushes and asking where their parents are and the comments about arms and legs sticking out from under rocks is just a bit much to really believe right now especially since it's always this 2nd or 3rd hand retelling from a vague person connected to the community.
