Not to suggest that there aren't a whole shitload of boomers and rightoids whose jimmies get rustled when people disagree with them, but it's really eye-opening how hard it is for twitter people to simultaneously maintain a sense of self alongside a minority opinion. Every now and again, I stumble upon these random accounts whose entire personality revolves around COVID. Whether it's masks, advocating for lockdowns or talking about how they have long covid. They feel so artificial like they don't exist as people outside of the virus.

It's entirely possible some are bots, but there are still quite a few people living as if it's March 2020, and they'll still be acting like this 5 years from now. A woman I used to know is just like this. In fact, most of the people who are still Covidians are women for some reason.

At first, I thought this was some stupid rap beef between Elon and some politician. Then I saw that people were going to get hit with fines for using a VPN to get on Twitter. So I looked into it and this is a genuine example of a fascist government trying to limit what people are allowed to talk about. There's a lot of actual misinformation going around about this too because a lot of people think the Brazil ban is because Twitter is kind of a shithole of bots and blue checkmarks right now, when in reality he's actually standing up for himself.

I know a bunch of them in a legacy forum. Not so much women, but a lot have that classic nerd profile (and probably diagnosed on the spectrum)
Most of have withdrawn their views from social media, from a lot of backlash (since no one is backing them up any more).

Thank god Julian Assange didn't drop Wikileaks 10 years later. Otherwise those character assassinations would have absolutely buried very important information coming to light.

Seriously, if I was an authoritarian government, I'd fucking love the current status quo. Cause all you gotta do is hit them with vague assertations of being on the wrong side of a hot-button issue, fabricate a little evidence and you can limit the spread of "undesirable information". Some people will completely dismiss serious issues until one of their approved sources says it, then it's all good.
