The man was running from the law while bragging about conspiring to murder troops, politicians, and the American public at large. It's not the same at all.

Due process, as with all the criminal rights outlined in the 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments, is about protecting all of us from the government. It does that by putting exceptionally onerous restrictions on the governments ability to prosecute criminal cases.

If you erode those burdens by letting the government get away with it because “well he’s just a terrorist” the feds WILL seize on that, as they have many times in the past. And soon it will be “well he was just conspiring to overthrow the government via challenging the election, he’s a traitor! We had to put him to death!” Or even “well he was a dangerous traitor because he was thinking about conspiring against us, we had to kill him!”
And before you say this is just a slippery slope fallacy or whatever, we’ve seen this countless times the world over in countries that don’t have these protections: the CCP, the USSSR, and even in England and the Colonies before the revolution.

If you are such a fool as to cede away rights because a person was “an active terrorist” or whatever, you deserve what comes to you as a result of that foolishness. But I can promise you this: if you survive those results, you won’t like them.

Every local police department has been neutered over the past four years

Massachusetts would like a word with you. Police in that state act with nigh impunity. The recent case of Karen Read proves this.

There's absolutely no guarantee of Trump winning Virginia ... But the numbers keep looking within reach for him, with many polls showing a tie between the two candidates (which is huge considering that Trump lost VA by a comfortable margin in both 2016 and 2020).

I would call it a victory if Trump is even able to get close to winning it since that should reflect the rest of the electorate, and poll numbers are showing that he's improving big time in the state.

It also helps that Glenn Youngkin's numbers are favorable in VA, that he's openly endorsed Trump, and that he's de-fortified the state's elections.

I also have quite a few friends in Virginia (more in Northern Virginia, too). They keep telling me it looks like Trump country there and how there's unprecedented enthusiasm for him there ... But we'll see if that translates into votes. My Republican friends sound really hopeful and enthusiastic, and my one Democrat friend from that state is very doom & gloom about it (and she's in Richmond-- a blue part of VA).

I mean... I'd love Virginia to flip. Imagine how hard of a slap in the face that would be.

I donated a very small amount of money to Brandon Herrera and his campaign sold my info to Ted Cruz's people. During the worst of it, I was getting 7-10 texts a day begging for money from GOP candidates I didn't even like. I have hundreds of numbers blocked and I still get 1-3 texts per day.

I've donated money to politicians in the past, but the begging has never been this extreme.

Anecdotally, online the Republican/MAGA sentiment I have largely seen is to make it “too big to rig”. NONE of them trust the electoral process, so I doubt any attempts to lull Trump supporters into complacency by forecasting a Trump blowout will work.

I think what is such a truth is that both sides have their nutters that fly so far off the range that it never gets boring.

I am too (or, rather, "Sandra" is). At least 4-5 emails from the Kamala campaign every day asking for twenty-five bucks, twenty-five bucks will get us over the finish line, hey how come you ain't gived us twenty-five bucks yet, mang?

Some of the emails sound desperate, some sound downright parental ("Now, I have to spell it out to you. Nothing could be clearer. Tim and I need YOU, Sandra, to give us twenty-five bucks"). Still others are from "Barack Obama" or [insert celebrity's name here], saying that democracy may not survive without twenty-five bucks.

I'm just waiting for the "OK, listen. We need you to go without food and give us twenty-five bucks, or they're gonna kill us all" email in the last week.

Pathetic, really.
