Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

groaning about having to play XIV again.
Hey, at least during mogstone events you can play Rival Wings because for some godforsaken reason SE decided to remove 8v8v8 Frontline in 5.0 because of "high player counts in 4.56" then had to bandaid fix it with a daily bonus and then completely ignore the PVP mode that was actually having player count issues.

Is it even worth playing? Frontlines are already (rarely) hit and (mostly) miss and Crystalline Conflict already long since drove me to madness.

I really want to grind some of the PVP achievements but everything I hear about the modes makes it sound not super fun.

It's so-so.

The upside is that it's 2 teams fighting it out MOBA-style so there's no Frontline-bs of either 2 teams tunnel-vision brawling it out while the remaining team actually gets all the extra points or there's one team lagging behind and feeding the other 2.

The downside is that in order to actually win, you want to have players that know what to do with the mechs available per group in the team. (6x 4 people so 6 possible mechs on the field.) And most of the time people either don't know where to actually board the mech at spawn, or they use the missiles from the Oppressor mech onto the player field like dunces since it's meant to heavily damage the towers and core structures and does neglible damage to players.

It does require more awareness and actual cooperation than in FL but good luck finding that usually. At least most FL matches don't take long and you can get 2 mounts out of 100 wins on it.

PVP hasn't been good since the heyday of Seal Rock when you could actually minmax stats to get an advantage. Now it's just a hot mess of poorly balanced jobs that all die to DRKs. If you want PVP rewards, just half-ass your way through a Frontline roulette each day. The rest are not worth the effort when they require 23 other people to not be half-assing, 100 times. Rival Wings is even worse because MOBAs fucking suck by design.

Holy fucking shit how did they manage to have an even more poorly voice acted character than Wuk in here. Erenville's robot-mom has zero influctuation of any kind. The same snarky nigger teenage girl delivery of every single sentence regardless of what the emotion conveyed ought to be. Even for a robotic character it's just agony to listen to. Thanks SE. I hate it.

And I'm not forgiving them for dragging Krile's entire identity into this retarded wannabe Halo/cyberpunk section of the expansion. As one of our longtime Scion friends she deserved a lot better than to be a side note in possibly the weakest part of an already weak expansion.

Like what @King Of Braves said, it's mostly not worth it. It has a lot of poorly balanced job stuff in it and if it isn't DRK's just soaking everything during their LB and then killing in retaliation, it's people just whaling on SAM and then getting one-shotted by their slash attack from the debuff if nobody stuns it. In FL people always love whacking players indiscriminately and counter-esque skills reign surpreme there.

My best advice if you really want some of those 100 wins mount rewards is to set a weekly milestone like 5 wins per week, and only if you really want some of those in order to prevent burnout, but don't invest too much time into it. There's a reason SE keeps bringing in dogshit incentives to keep this activity alive like the pvp series passes.

also DRG's and RPR's. They have premades to coordinate that shit and win by like a 1000 points. PVP's balance is more centered around CC with FL's being an afterthought.

This is why you play in japanese, it turns erenville's mom from annoying to actually kind of funny because in JP she sounds like an helicopter mom.

I really like PVP in this game. I don't know why, but it just rewards me with dopamine for whatever reason.

The thing you have to understand fundamentally is that any of the PVP modes are going to have you squaring off against members of the community.

The XIV community is not especially skilled at the game nor are they motivated for wanting to get better. As a result, you may get games that are just complete circuses where an enemy team just farms your ass where it becomes boring.

Sometimes you get a good mishmash of low-effort/low-skill people amongst all three teams and it's just a chaotic brawl. If you ever played WoW Vanilla back in the day this is probably the closest it gets to capturing those told Tarren Mill/Southshore world PVP brawls.

You might also get a team that has a shotcaller and actually trying to organize the team where you'll just zoom around farming the enemy teams.

It's very random and if you're prone to tilting, I don't recommend playing it hardcore.

That said, there's a lot of shit you can do even if you're on a shitty team if you enjoy PVP. SAMs are fun at baiting folks, you can get chain kills as a NIN (their limit break automatically slots someone if they're below 50% health and resets if you get a kill), etc.

That's for Frontline. Rival Wings is usually a bit more structured and you might have more of a sense of 'wtf am I doing' initially but it's pretty fast-paced, matches are short and I find it to be fun. Plus you can hop into big mechas for a lark.

CC is probably the most 'try-hard' mode, but even then it's not crazy unless you're being a ranked tard.

If you want more info/tips on PVP lemme know, I'm happy to talk about it.

That sounds almost contradictory to how she's portrayed. "I know I'm already dead and this is the first time you're meeting me in years and probably the last time you'll ever see me again and you probably have so much more you want to discuss with me while you still have the chance, but why can't you be happy for me and let me have MY moment and do what I want to do while completely disregarding what you, my son, wants?" I still feel bad for Erenville, man. He deserved a much better closure than that.

I consistently get games that are like this. It's why I stopped wanting to farm CC after two or three Series worth. A good match can be fun, but most of the time, people either mindlessly push and overextend when they shouldn't, or are too afraid to push when they should especially when you give your team an opening to move in and clean house. It can be fun as hell when it goes right, and it's always satisfying when you do happen to get a landslide game in your favor, but otherwise, it's just a hot mess.

Yeah, if you no-life it and aren't in a 4 man it can be rage inducing. I'll dip in a couple of times a week, get a few games in, etc.

People do seem to slowly be learning, at least.

Mogstone event in a few days. I hope everyone gets enough to buy what they want from the event and that no-one's retarded enough to get the Alte Roite prism.

I'm going to have a few free trial bots farm Prae 24/7 and get as many Seemingly Special Timeworn Maps as is physically possible.
If it takes 30 minutes a run, that's still 48 Prae runs a day, or a total of 1,344 Mogstones a day.
This is apparently going to last 4 weeks, so that's around 37,632 Mogstones in total or 2509 Maps at the end of it.
Maybe it was a bad idea to let free triallers into Stormblood?
I'm struggling to understand the logistics of this. Are you running 4 separate trial accounts each with autoduty and rotation solver reborn? Mogtomes are added to inventory if I remember right so claiming isn't an issue.

Getting all the level 70 maps do you plan to have the bots autoduty them as well for gil and random loot? Is it even possible to automate deciphering and flying to map locations?

Bot developers are something else. That's a lot of random stuff to automate.

I finally got it, after 30+ escapes and God knows how many hundred+ attempts, I finally caught the last fish and earned my Final Fish title.

So i have 3 trial accounts and the other account i pay a sub for in a party, and they're going to be running Prae 24/7 through Autoduty during the event. (It has a mode for manual queueing instead of using Duty Support/Trusts/Unsynced for this express purpose.)
Claiming mogstones isn't an issue at all unless I think that one of the weekly challenges or Ultimog challenge are actually worth going for, and buying out all the maps is going to happen after the event ends since you can buy whatever you want up till 7.2.

It isn't possible to autoduty maps, but i can just have the trial accounts in the party with looting set to Pass so that I can obtain all of the Thief's Maps and housing items/glamour materials/orchestrion rolls that drop from the dungeons, as well using MBT to make things a bit more convenient.
There's a cap on gil on the free trial and you're also unable to trade so there's no point in trying to run the maps when i'm not involved.
Not sure if automating deciphering is possible but it probably is with Automaton's "activate command when entering duty" function, automating flying is possible with Auto Pillion and a 4-seater mount provided that none of the other party members i'm going to be sharing the maps with are going to use multi-seater mounts.

caught the last fish
Congrats! Hoping I can get mine today.

And lo, it is finished.

Spleen didn't lissun tu Mii and is now dead. Tuliyollal is now a colonial power, having installed a puppet child ruler under the iron fist of Wuk Lamat over the conquered peoples of Alexandria.

I normally started these post-expansion posts with an hours count but this time I don't have one for you; We stopped counting after EW, the last point at which this was a joyful endeavor and not just us stubbornly pressing on to finish the game. Instead I will provide a "ml of alcohol consumed" count, which I feel helps contextualize the experience. Between the two of us we drank 800ml of vodka over the course of DT, most of which came after we decided to do a shot every time the quest told us to "speak to Wuk Lamat." Our livers may not have survived DT.

You all know how I feel about the story by this point. No more need be said. Interphos was a fun trial. Alexandria and Origenics were decently entertaining dungeons. The actual gameplay content wasn't shit, but there were a lot of missed opportunities for solo duties that I guarantee would've been in the game back in Ye Olde Days. That is all the charity I have to give for this expansion.

We're both exhausted. There's a lot of good stuff left in FFXIV for us to explore (next week we're hoping to do the Myths of the Realm questline at some point) but I doubt we'll be in any hurry to log back in after DT. No idea when we'll do 7.1 and frankly I couldn't give less of a shit right now.

yeah uh about that, looks like it'll be 19/7 instead of 24/7, this is so optimised that class choice (and food, but fuck that) is unironically the only way i can get it to go even faster (Currently SGE, DNC, DRG, and WAR, unsure if replacing the DRG with NIN or SAM and WAR with DRK would speed it up by a few seconds, replacing SGE with SCH might be a DPS loss)

2,800 * 28 / 15 = over 5 thousand maps

there's a 100 dungeon limit a day to stop people from farming gil via dungeons and i think i'm going to be the first person to hit it because of mogstones

Related note, does anyone know of an easy way to remove the Magitek Cannon blasts from an ACT log?
