I would liken it to the period from the early 90s to the turn of the century where the industry was settling into the new PlayStation paradigm of optical disc media and 3D graphics. Not a crash, but a pretty bloody business -- NEC totally gone, Sega destroyed as a hardware player, Nintendo knocked into second place, Sony going from zero to dominance in about three years, 3DO and other wanna-bes roadkilled. That PlayStation paradigm isn't going to survive the decade. We'll see who dies along with it.

If I had to place us in a timeline, I would say we are at the point just before the collapse begins accelerating rapidly. Expect things to go into overdrive when the first AAA developer (propably Ubisoft) goes down/is bought and the rest recognise their mortality (5 stages of grief and shit).

The toxic positivity stuff reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode where if you think bad thoughts or say bad things to the evil kid you're toast. They've got people so scared to speak up that no one can really start the ball rolling on positive changes. We've got devs having tantrums over being criticized. Yeah no one feels bad for you because you are making an ass out of yourselves on social media.

The best way I've seen it put is that collapse happens very, very slowly, then all at once. In the case of the USSR for example, food slowly became more scarce, streets slowly became more dirty, roads slowly stopped being maintained, and when it did it took progressively longer to maintain a shorter road. Trains, buses, planes all slowly start arriving late and the longer time goes on the more the average time they're late grows. Then one day you suddenly find out that the USSR doesn't exist anymore.

The collapse has started several years ago but the cracks have only started to show now that even the normalniggers can't be bothered to throw their money at any sloppa that gets produced anymore. AAA studios have been making their games worse from literally every aspect. They're mechanically worse, the monetization is more predatory, the graphics - the one thing that should be the easiest thing to get right, are worse. Not just in terms of style but in terms of fidelity. It's like we're back in the mid to late 7th generation where everything was brown and looked like it was smeared with vaseline. The big difference is that at least the shit brown PS3/Xbox360 games were fun to play more often than not. There are no new ideas anymore, so many games get remakes (more like demakes because most of them shit on the original), games are so homogenized now in terms of gameplay loops - you've played one you've literally played them all. There is no nuance to the characters anymore, complicated dark characters that still come off as sympathetic don't exist. Either someone is a selfless good guy yelling TRANS RIIIIIIIGHTS or literally Hitler.

It's basically those Discord groups where you only have "positive vibes" going on and people are so sensitive and afraid of speaking up, while people have the - heh - chutzpah of saying they have "never found such a supporive group like (said group)".

Even more "fun facts". Most of the individuals that went after the music industry (the PMRC) were largely Democrats. It was Tipper Gore and her gaggle of fuckwits that brought a lot of charges against heavy metal (and rock music in general). Dee Snider (who is the biggest fucking government simp now, ironically enough) was one of the few that pushed back.

Democrats are also largely responsible for getting rid of Saturday morning cartoons. Something, something, "mindless entertainment", no education. 'Cause God forbid kids have a few hours to veg out to mindless fun cartoons for a few hours on a weekend before they're sent outside to play.
