It's possible he really did not want to kill her. Here are two other officer-involved shootings where that really comes across:

In the former case the suspect shot fatally was Asian and in the latter case, despite being named "Jamaica", he (who lived BTW) was ostensibly white and/or Hispanic. In either case there was no chance of the HE A GOOD BOI HE DINDU NUFFIN SUHSTEMIK RAYCISSCISSUM DEEFUND DA POLEESE mob affecting the officers involved, yet there was a distinct lack of trigger-happiness present in both cases. In the latter case especially, an involved officer is obviously in tears, exclaiming things like "I didn't wanna fuckin' do that, man!"

Anyway, for the purposes of this thread, my understanding is that the BLM movement had a certain amount of influence in the proliferation of BWCs. I am glad they got what they asked for. The officer who shot Sydney Wilson, Peter Liu, is Asian and I suspect he will somehow still be spun as a tool of WY SOOPREMASEE and be portrayed as trigger-happy when he clearly was not. No one with at least half a brain cell will believe any of that though.

I doubt most cops are absolute psychopaths looking to go to work and gun down people. That officer probably was running on pure adrenaline after the 6'5 crazy woman came out swinging a knife and most of his actions were more instinct instead of conscious thought.

The overall impression I have is that cops are perfectly happy to get into wrestling matches if the situation calls for it because that can be kinda exciting in a good way but opening fire—and remember, they have hollow-point bullets for several reasons—should really be avoided if at all possible. And also yeah, Peter Liu was just fucking bleeding all over the place.

I actually don't think that's entirely true. The damage WWI did in the UK was that the vast majority of casualties were volunteers. Britiain in the 20's and 30's even before the depression was a miserable place. The damage was done by the best British men getting slaughtered in France in 1914-17.

No. Cops would much rather they not have to get physical in at all because it results in a fuck ton of paperwork, along with the various physical risks for everyone involved and the consequences. That's not to say they won't, obviously, but they definitely aren't "perfectly happy" and don't see potentially getting mobbed by bystanders or having their skulls cracked on the ground as "exciting in a good way".

There's far too many bodycam vids of cops practically begging active threats to just stop before they ever even deploy their tasers to think the average cop would be fine having to get physical.
