now that we're a few weeks out from the election, here's an update on where we are with abortion on ballots:

• the following states are voting to increase the # of weeks allowed for elective abortions, usually to "up to viability" which is 24 weeks: Arizona, Florida, Missouri, South Dakota
• the following states are creating new laws to enhance protections on existing abortion laws: Colorado, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, New York
• Nebraska has two ballot measures: one to allow abortion up to 24 weeks, one to enforce its current standard of up to 12 weeks. the measure that has the higher % of Yes votes wins

it doesn't seem like these are going to have the same effect as during the 2022 election. by Republicans cutting out national abortion ban speak and by Trump keeping the line of "state's rights", these ballots seem to be doing exactly what they're supposed to do: letting the states decide how they're going to handle abortion

Arizona's ballot measure might work against Trump, but both the ballot measure and Trump are ahead in a poll done about a month ago so maybe this is showing that abortion can finally be separated from the president and federal government
