Only Mexinarcs, Central Americans, shit countries like Veneshit, Colomdumb & Brazilandia have those type of problems.
The others are basically commiting suicide or dead between inmigrants, which are nothing.

I was going to say "you're not wrong, but Brazil majes up like 50% of South America, and its murder rate is one of the highest in the Americas, so it's a big deal".

I used to work at the Surgery ER of a public hospital in a very big city in Brazil, and if I had to estimate, I'd say 80% of patients either got there because of bike crashes or were shot. And quite a few crashed their bikes while getting shot running from the police.

Fortunately I think everyone reading this thread already knows if you are in SA and see 2 guys on a bike: get the fuck outta there, asap!

The issue is that Brazil is fucking huge, and have some really nasty urban centers with two, three big cities merging into one big mess.
The difference between a Hue from the south (Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina) to a Southeast to a Rio de Janeiro to a Northeast nigga is so enormous they each could be considered another species.
Brazil is 26 different countries held together by a corrupt Federal Government - don't go down the rabbit-hole covering the differences in taxes given and received by each state of this Banana Republic.

Can confirm, am Brazilian. The free healthcare seems to be made to patch up bullet holes and stab wounds. Good luck needing anything else - you just end up blind or worse.

I'm no patriot, and I'll be the first to agree we live in a fucked nation.

But as you said, it is a huge country, so even though the public health system is the same everywhere, it can manisfest in wildly different ways depending on the region... and sometimes (to my surprise) it actually works.

Case in point: I've worked at quarternary hospitals where incredible cancer surgeries could be performed... but also worked in rural areas where I couldn't do shit about simple migranes. And though I've never been there myself, from what I know the entire state of Pernambuco (where people from the story you linked went blind) is one of those giant shitholes where you better pray you don't get a cold, or you will end up in this thread.

I live in one of the South states and never had any issue with SUS, to be fair.

Also, the news if from Pernambuco, but the case happened in Rio Grande do Norte - and yes, north of Distrito Federal, you'd be better off not going to the hospital.
