I have an acquaintance in Brazil who seems to believe that Elon is in fact his country's biggest problem and is in complete denial about all the very obvious problems Brazil faces (or, when he acknowledges them, says they're all Bolsonaro's fault, despite these problems being decades in the making). He's fairly typical of the urban middle class there, from what I can tell, which explains a great deal about the place.

We didn’t know how bad it was, not even remotely.

To be fair, most, perhaps all of that was already out there, scattered across dozens of articles and white papers over a decade or two. I do see many more Trump signs than Harris-Walz in my area of the state but I suspect Harris will still take it, even if only by a cunthair. People here vote blue mainly because it's a force of habit. No real conviction behind it.
