I am legitimately and truly torn on who I should vote for in the Senate: a RINO, or a write-in?

A campaign volunteer actually went door-to-door in my neighborhood a few days ago, and I had a civil and nice discussion with the kid, but basically the kid's only argument in favor of the RINO was "Well ... We want a Republican majority senate for President Trump, and honestly, we don't think that a MAGA candidate has a chance of winning this kind of election in this state."

A fair point, indeed, but holy shit I do not want to be responsible for electing another Mitt Romney, John McCain, or John Cornyn.

Would you happen to live in Maryland? Cause former governor Larry Hogan is about the only Republican that fits the mold. If you do, I'd say just vote for Hogan and it'll be fine.
The main thing that really defines RINO is when the fake exists in a red / competitive state; a blue-state RINO is more preferable because that RINO is quite literally the only Republican that can win statewide in Maryland (and even then I think he'll fall very short). Real Republicans don't hate Suzanne Collins (Maine) the way they hate Lisa Murkowski (fuck that bitch btw).

They are entirely ruled by ideological purity. If they are tempted for a moment to remember their own teenage summer job at a fast food joint and find this stunt even a little relatable or endearing, then they have lost that purity.

They seem strangely preoccupied with whether or not Trump actually worked a totally-real shift at an open McDonald’s franchise during the lunch rush. Like, they seem to think we all believe it was all real. Like, what, do you think Trump sat down and filled out a W-2 and will get his wages mailed to his Mar a Lago address in 2-4 weeks?

It was a stunt. Everyone knows it was a stunt. An effective one. People are trying to murder him, of course they closed down the store.

I have shown that drive-thru wave picture to like 5 people today and every one of them smiled or laughed and found it enjoyable. It wasn’t policy, it wasn’t a debate, it was just a fancy rich guy slinging fries because he is Just Like Us. A nice non-controversial little current event to discuss over Sunday dinner. And that’s the real crime: Trump did something generally positive that isn’t connected to any sticky subjects, and that made him come off like a man of the people.

That is a very broad statement as health code violations can be very minor. You have to look at what it is in the report.

Slight powerlevel: Having lived in PA I can tell you that the health inspectors here are fucking Soup Nazi level of anal retentive. To not be cited once means you have to meet damn near impossible standards, AKA nobody.

I think it's close to impossible for any restaurant to get 100% on those reports, it's a health inspector's job to nit pick for minor shit.

From my experience working in cafeterias, all of the above are true when it comes to food service inspections.

In my locale, the inspector has a sheet that starts with 100 points and a list of potential violations with deductions ranging from one point (very minor violations) to five points (so serious the place is shut down on the spot). If there are enough minor violations, any five-point violations, or a final score below a certain number, a follow-up inspection is scheduled to check for better compliance with more serious consequences if the violations go unaddressed or worsen.

Because of how the food code is written and variation on how individual inspectors interpret the code, it's almost inevitable to get at least one or two minor violations during an annual inspection. If an inspector brought back a form with a perfect 100 score, the supervisor would likely assume the inspector didn't do their job and send someone else to go back there and look even harder for as many violations as possible.

Also, some inspectors are happy to write up the bare minimum of minor violations needed to justify the inspection while other inspectors enjoy impersonally writing up every little thing they can find. This subjectivity makes it difficult to compare one inspection to another.

With that in mind, a place having "violations" is meaningless without context. If the violation was for having no test strips for the dish machine's bleach level or they had the thermometer in the wrong corner of the chilled storage rack, I wouldn't bat an eye because those are some of the most minor violations that can be reported. If there were issues with hand washing, sanitation, or critters in the prep/storage areas, that would be far more concerning because of the cross-contamination concerns that come with those violations.

Tying this into the presidential race, the people who are posting, "OMG, this McDonald's had violations during the last inspection!" are hoping people will assume the worst without realizing the lack of context or detail. It's no different than the attack ads that take small clips and present them out of context in hopes people won't care to look further or discover the situation is a true nothingburger that's been grossly exaggerated.
