I know it's been said before but I was talking to the black guys at work about the election. They still absolutely hate the idea of a "black" woman in power. As they like everyone find them completely insufferable. Her record for mass incarceration of pot heads was a close second in their concerns. They aren't going to vote for megaracist trump obviously so they just aren't voting. It is incredible. Dems managed to turn the guaranteed win of "anyone but trump" to this circus

In many ways I do have sympathy for the Democrat situation. Trump is a hell of an opponent to face. Democrats like to tout record turn out in 2020 but I often wonder if they realize the implications and situation of that election. Trump had record turnout as well, but every voter for Trump actually voted for Trump. Because of covid and the ability to turn the average American into a terminally online redditer through stay at home, democrats were able to get a lot of not-trump votes. Republicans simply don't do this, a vote for Trump, a vote for Bush, a vote for Romney is a vote for that candidate. A vote for Kamala is many times a vote for not Trump and that worked in 2020 but we've seen 4 years of how that kind of vote logic turns out for the country.

I think democrats sold their soul a while back and they don't realize it. Kamala is such a terrible candidate that they are losing their "always vote blue" voters and the way they've run their elections since 2008, that is a good chunk of their base.

Exactly, so why would you bother also paying to drill for, pump, pipe or ship, refine, flare the waste, transport again by truck, then inefficiently burn the hydrocarbon - which has huge secondary costs of causing localised air pollution and climate change.

The technology now exists that you don’t need to do all that shit. Sure, you have to do other shit, but at one point we moved on from horses and carts, and from coal powered tractors.

The company mostly dealt with low income people and had to suffer the troubles of catering to that demo, until Trump tried to revitalize New York City.

I don't think it's a clear cut comparison. Correct me if I am wrong, but there is a lot to refining crude oil/natual gas and the gasoline we put into engines is just one of many byproducts in the process right? The energy expended to create the gasoline isn't solely for the gasoline and it is going to be produced anyway as a part of the larger refining process. So by using combustion engines it isn't so much doubling our energy usage though redundant logistics, but rather it's us using the whole buffalo of petroleum refinement.
