The investigation into the sudden death of a 19-year-old Walmart employee over the weekend is ongoing in Halifax.

The woman’s identity has not been released, but the Maritime Sikh Society confirmed to CTV News that she was a member of their community. Members say she moved to Nova Scotia two to three years ago.

In a news release Monday, Halifax Regional Police said they were called to a sudden death at the Walmart at 6990 Mumford Road around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to police, a 19-year-old woman who was employed at the store was found dead inside the building.

The store has remained closed since Saturday night while the investigation is ongoing. There is no word on when it might reopen.

HRP Const. Martin Cromwell says police are aware of online speculation about the woman’s cause of death, but would not confirm nor address the information being shared.

“The investigation is complex,” said Cromwell.

“We understand the public is involved, and we just wanted to encourage the public to be patient with our investigation and be mindful that there are family members and coworkers involved.”

Cromwell says Halifax police are coordinating with the appropriate agencies to help with the investigation.

The Department of Labour told CTV News it has not conducted its own investigation into the incident yet.

“The Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration is aware of the situation and continues to engage with our partners the Halifax Regional Police who have control of the scene,” a spokesperson said.

The department said it is unable to share further information at this time.

Walmart released a statement on Sunday, stating the company was aware of the incident and working to support its staff.

“We are heartbroken and our deepest thoughts are with our associate and their family. We extend our sincerest condolences to those who were closest to them,” said spokesperson Amanda Moss in the statement.

“We’re also supporting our associates during this incredibly difficult time and have provided access to 24/7 virtual care and will provide on-site support, including grief counselling.”

CTV News reached out to Walmart on Monday, but the company declined to comment further.

This has been all over Canadian news, and is spreading further. Some huge occupational health and safety implications.

The locals (and employees of the closed store) have been sharing details that the media aren’t reporting.

Apparently is was common for employees to stand in front of the open oven door to warm up when temperatures were cold.

The walk-in oven used to be a closet in the back room that was converted.

The girl’s mother also worked at that store and was supposedly on shift when it happened.

Of all the ways to go, being cooked to death in a closet oven is up there as one of the worst I can think of.

I actually hope she was murdered first, as terrible as that would be.

Kinda makes me think there are multiple people involved, as we're talking about a walmart full of people, staff and customer. I'd find it rather odd for anybody to kill someone and take the time to put their body into the oven without someone keeping watch.
what I found super strange is some reports came out that people heard a woman (presumably the victim?) screaming. But nobody found out where the screaming was coming from? Nobody went to the bakery to check the oven or where the sound of screaming was coming from? Sooooo weird. Unless it was the mother screaming because of what she found - the paper today said the mother found the body.

This is all pretty horrible, and there's so much speculation that I'm just going to relate what I know about these ovens, since I've worked with them in a grocery setting frequently in the past. They aren't "walk-in" like you would see in a larger commercial bakery that focuses only on bread, those are literal rooms with rotating mounts that you push racks of proofed bread on to bake. These types are made to only do what the store needs to make sales figures. The seals are like a larger version of what you would find in a home oven, and while they do latch, very few have a lock because something like a home self cleaning function makes no sense on such a large oven that only makes bread, it would use too much power/gas. The safety plunger that disengages the latch from the inside is very simple, but they can and do fail and get overlooked. If the plunger mechanism is broken and you somehow get trapped inside, you can't simply push the door open.

All that basically makes this some form of homicide, since even if she got trapped in there (you would have to be very, very stupid to trap yourself in one), an oven like that doesn't just turn on. Larger operations will sometimes opt to leave the ovens on but cooled somewhat for certain types of bread in times of higher demand, but this is a Walmart. Also, you can clean almost the entire interior of an oven like that from the outside with cleaning chemicals and a brush on a pole. With regards to why didn't anyone smell anything, well, the outside of the Walmart may have smelled slightly off, because these ovens do have steam vents, but they vent to the roof. It's unlikely anyone would have smelled anything inside unless they went into the bakery area, which would have long been shut down at night.

I'm just gonna echo a few others here and say I hope she was killed before being baked, and I think she probably was. She would have been screaming and flailing for a while if she was baked alive. That's an incredibly painful and awful way to die for anyone. I'm not any type of fan of the mass influx of Indians to the West, forcing these people on others isn't right, but this is damn tragic. I get the gallows humor jokes, but the people who are just saying shit like "well, she was x so I'm glad she's dead" need to check to see if you have a soul at all.

I found a couple of screen grabs I had about boyfriend comments. They could be random bullshit, but there were other similar comments. But identifying details got lots of comments deleted quickly by mods. I was multitasking and couldn't grab full archives quickly enough. None of the ones I caught seemed any more substantial or detailed.

I had a long wait for a bus last night, at the terminal next to the store. It's a heavy air. Still no word on reopening.

The place was overrun with mice. Even on a good day, with a bustle of human activity and shelf-checking, people would get chewed holes through bread and chips. I can't imagine what the grocery section looks or smells like after a full week left in situ.

In the customer description of being asked to leave, staff told people to just put their purchases on the ground and go. So there are probably some perishable goods out of refrigerator, etc. Rotting produce. Those boxes of baby lettuce, turning to putrid slime even *in* the refrigerator.

There will be smells layered on smells.

I find it endearing how she is only about 99% sure you cannot get stuck in one of these, hence it takes her about a minute of yapping to actually walk into one and close the door, and she made sure her friend was there with her, just in case.

Being around shit you know can kill you painfully and slowly is scary. It's like even when I'm working under my car with multiple redundant jack stands and the jack still up, there's still a little fear alarm in the back of my mind.

That's what you're supposed to do around heavy equipment.

Honestly props to this girl, it's a very helpful video and supports the murder theory, as well as the "she was dead before going in there" theory. This is a Walmart we're talking about, if these ovens weren't totally idiot-proof we'd be seeing far more roast wagies.

If there was one instance of someone's kid, grandpa, whatever accidentally shutting themselves into one of these and dying, that would be the last time it would ever happen.

Not only would the oven company go out of business, but if I were on a jury, I would hang the Walton family upside-down and shake every last nickel out of their pockets.

Eight figures sounds VERY low.

Better believe that the oven company and WalMart both have a whole-ass IDF of Jew lawyers working 24/7 on this.

If anyone's an expert on oven law, it's gonna be a Jew.

Without explaining why, you have been told correctly. be glad you dont know first hand.

It does have a resemblance to some other meat cooking smells you would be familiar with, but realize this is gonna be with clothes, skin, hair, socks, shoes. The combination of all of that being combusted is... bad. It's bad and unique. You arent gonna forget it.

Honest to God if I had to describe it I'd tell you pork hot dogs with a side of "deeply unsettling wrong" mixed with plastic and fabric char.

II have no idea why I read this thread because I'd prefer not to think about that or why I know it. Im gonna go drink now.
It's one of those smells that legitimately triggers you deep in your ancestral hindbrain. It will actually bring up fight or flight reactions. Or simply uncontrollable puking.

It's the smell of not just the meat cooking. But all of the bodies fat and fluids. All the organs. Stuff you would not encounter cooking.

Once you smell it you never forget it. And if you know it you will never mistake anything else for it. It really is the stuff of nightmares.

Yep, and it is smart she is listening to that voice in her head. I just also think it's one of those cute human things. It's endearing to me.

Being an enjoyer of liver and bacon casserole, I can agree. Organs smell a hell of a lot different to plain flesh and then there's all the other giblets to consider.

100% the guilty party will be found in this case even if Walmart has to pin the murder on some patsy. There is no way they are going to let some jeets clean them out of tens of millions of dollars when this whole thing stinks so much.

It's a Walmart that probably sees a lot of shoplifting. People might have just assumed someone was making a scene after getting caught by security, or some junkie having an episode. I don't blame people for not investigating the screaming right away, I'm sure Walmart doesn't pay well enough to risk getting stabbed with a dirty syringe.

It's C*nada though. It's highly likely this will get buried if they find out it was jeet on jeet. Like I said earlier in the thread, it's illegal to make the migrants who don't know how to use the toilet feel bad. I have a sneaking suspicion this story is going to get buried. Cops in Canada don't give a fuck. JF got away with murdering his potato. The law in this country is a fucking joke unless you're misgendering trannies or trying to stop jeets from shitting on the beach.

Canada is a territory with rights slightly below Puerto Rico. Jeets dying is one thing, jeets dying in an American embassy potentially costing a branch of the government a lost of finances and face is something that will not stand. I mean legally Walmart has more rights as a citizen than an actual flesh and blood citizen in Canada does.

Thanks for reposting this, for I am certain that all Walmarts across north America use the same model. And if the speculation from redditors is to be believed, then this was 100% a homicide.

Its just a matter of figuring out who/why. Spurned advances/petty ex boyfriend are both plausible, given how dumb and malicious Jeet men tend to be when scorned.

I wish I could give you two stickers.

The Kickfundme and a couple articles mention that they're possibly fast-tracking the mother's husband and a brother's immigration for "compassionate reasons". I'm thinking that is plenty motive right there. Get husband and favored son into the country, get rid of a "useless" daughter. Win Win for the jeets.

Oh geez. Just imagining it makes it a bit ill.

Sounds like that place already needed to be closed, and now it's even worse.

That's just Halifax / Dartmouth though, really any port city is going to have mice where there's large quantities food. It's more about doing your best to mitigate / minimize their impact. Or maybe our stores are just scuzzy in Atlantic leafland? It was like that before mass migration too, if you weren't careful to check your bread, you might find a mouse hole in it. Rare but it did and still does happen.
