I can't help but feel this is because of the /pol/ chuds who make up A&N forcing their overly-serious attitude into the culture of the site, which allows threads on e-celeb, political, and plain old white trash drama to be made (the epitome of SNCA) and ruins threads on good lolcows. This does nothing but attract grifters and no-fun-allowed busybodies who only care about trending/popular stuff. I don't know why you're worried about banning A&N. Discussing politics online has been (mostly) a waste of time ever since 2016, so there's nothing the on-topic posters would miss. In all likelihood, the A&Ntards would just buzz off to Onionfarms or Twitter or thedonald.win or Discord if you deleted A&N, and nobody would miss them.
