Agree to disagree. She had no path forward in the Dem party, she could have whored out and stayed a Hawaii rep, but the best she could hope for would be Senator of Hawaii. Possible, but to be fair, the democrats are a pretty rotted and stagnant hierarchy. Plenty of people are rightfully expecting a democrat party internal collapse, and Republicans are already beginning to pivot with most of their old dogs aligning with the democrats. RFK and Tulsi both stated they aligned with Trump partially just to tell the democrat establishment to go fuck itself; a lot of people do expect that from the democrat ground floor, the only way up is out.

And if I was paying attention correctly and focused on not just shitposting and the things that interest me: The stagnation is because Hillary Clinton and Mister Obama cleaned house and ensured that only the current power structure could exist in a vacuum with them at the head of things. It ensured younger, fresher, talent would be gatekept and away from making any real changes.

DOJ employees face growing threat of political violence heading into Election Day, letter says

Justice Department leadership needs to do more to protect career staff from threats of political violence heading into the election, according to a letter sent on behalf of nearly 2,000 employees Thursday.

The letter obtained by Politico was sent to Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco and Assistant Attorney General Jolene Lauria, and highlights several instances where career staff were threatened with violence after their personal information was exposed online. Staff handling Jan. 6-related litigation, immigration cases and those involved in executing search warrants in high-profile cases have been specifically targeted and threatened, according to the letter.

That last item appears to be a reference to when FBI agents executed a search warrant on Mar-a-Lago in 2022 while investigating claims former president Donald Trump mishandled classified information. Both FBI agents and the judge who signed the warrant had their information published online in 2022.

“There has been an uptick in doxing against government officials since January 6, 2021, and experts believe the election could exacerbate the problem exponentially,” according to the letter signed by the DOJ Gender Equality Network’s President Stacey Young and Jay Sinha, a senior counsel at the agency and a volunteer member of the organization. DOJ GEN represents agency staffers interested in gender equality in the workforce.

A DOJ spokesman said the department has received the letter and is reviewing its recommendations.

“The women and men of the Justice Department are dedicated public servants who work every day to ensure the fair and impartial application of our laws,” the DOJ said in a statement. “Protecting their safety and security is necessary for the Department to carry out its vital mission.”

Agency leadership is aware that career staff, who are supposed to be apolitical, have been threatened and doxed over their work. Attorney General Merrick Garland in September spoke about an unprecedented “escalation of attacks” against the DOJ personnel.

Election-related threats have also been a broad problem. The Justice Department has filed several cases in Colorado, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Florida where suspects threatened violence against election workers. The letter also cited a May 2023 bulletin from the Department of Homeland Security warning that the election could “mobilize individuals to commit violence.”

While the agency has recognized these threats, the letter notes that staffers “have not received adequate support from DOJ.”

It lists several recommendations for the agency, such as creating a team to respond to these incidents and a centralized system across different departments to report threats. Members of the team could include representatives from the FBI, the U.S. Marshals and the DOJ’s Computer Crime Division.

The letter also recommended increasing access to commercially available identity protection services, which one DOJ GEN member who prosecuted Jan. 6 cases described as a “lifesaver” after her personal information was exposed online.

“While Justice Department employees are unusually vulnerable to doxing and other online threats, the Department is uniquely equipped to mitigate the harm they pose. We ask you to do every reasonable thing in your power to protect our safety and health in the face of unprecedented threats, and we stand ready to help in any way we can,” the group wrote in the letter.
