Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Bullshit. Assassian's Creed, released nearly two decades ago, didn't have yellow paint smeared everywhere and people didn't have any issue playing that game. This is a fake problem cooked up as a cope by lazy developers. This idea that "we need to design games around people who are too fucking stupid to play them" is just retarded. If someone "doesn't know how to play a game", then they have two options: get good or fuck off.
Cannot find it now but I'm immediately reminded of that moment when Ubisoft did a presentation on game design and literally showed a DSP clip in the middle of it, showcasing how it's important to make things more accessible to a larger audience.
AAA games will always try to widen their sales even if it means pandering to the lowest common denominator. It isn't really a question of whether or not it's retarded, that's simply how they operate.

Oh, I am well aware. I watched Mass Effect turn into Gears of War with less homoeroticism over the course of a single entry.
humanity figured out pointing out directions to players a long time ago, yellow paint on surfaces is stupid

Funny you mention that since they actually patented that arrow and the patent only expired in 2018.

Portal is a game that is about being locked up in a test lab with big, white flat surfaces everywhere. Not something that really works for everything.
Please actually watch the video I linked. A lot of what's explained is completely agnostic to level design. Things like introducing concepts over time, restricting the player from 'clever' solutions early on, not allowing the player to accidentally stumble their way into victory.

It is staggering that people consider this visual indicator dumbed down for the lowest common denominator.

And this visual indicator super subtle for very smart, hardcore gamers.

This is bait, isn't it? Saying shit no one actually believes? Also, if you train to player earlier on that you can destroy props and get goodies from them, you don't need the tacky yellow paint.
Like Half-Life 2. Twenty fucking years ago.

It's all within the context of a game environment that consists almost entirely of giant, flat, white surfaces where there is zero chance of there being any ambiguity as to whether or not a pile of clutter is climbable or not, since there's no non-interactive, scenic clutter in the puzzle rooms.

Doom '16 got razzed for making the explosive barrels red, because otherwise dumb modern gamers couldn't tell they exploded. But every other object in the game is a metallic cylinder! I think the devs made intelligent choices about barrel coloring, although overall it is still gay.

When the vast majority of objects are non-interactive, if you have no visual indicators, what you get to do is press "use" on random pieces of junk to see which are interactive. This is just a 3D version of pixel-bitching. It's not fun and doesn't make a game interesting.

My opinion would only be unpopular with Leftists. I'm enjoying Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but the decision to race swap the Greeks is fucking nuts. With the exception of a few main characters, the majority of the NPCs are Brown and Black. They look more like they're from Calcutta or Zimbabwe than Southern Europe.
