Friend, if you're not telling your kids about pornography and its harms (and how to tell you if someone showed them any) before they first encounter it, you're doing them a disservice. Average age of first pornography exposure isn't much older than seven nowadays. To be fair, a lot of them don't have the time or dexterity to get familiar with a keyboard, so they try to use one like a typewriter. If you look carefully some of them use hunt-and-peck typing, and that kind of effort makes it less likely they'll delete anything. Both tablets and real computers are esoteric to them, especially since modern computers have moved away from skeuomorphism. They got it drilled into their heads that "formal text" is for business and letter writing. Through cultural osmosis, they've associated computers with 2000's style acronyms and hashtags. Because of those things, they think, "fuck it," and try to communicate the best way they know how.

Unfortunately for them, between-channel redundancy doesn't work in text the way they think it does.
