Because the betting is impartial. Just because a recent poll tricked a handful of retards doesn't mean it's not a good metric. The retards get diluted out, as is already happening. Also it's not a poll of "who are you voting for" it's "who do you think will win?". You can be a staunch bossman jack voter and still recognize he isn't going to win. So you use your anecdotal evidence to bet on the most likely candidate. Family and friends voting, people's yard signs, etc. Of course it's not 100% accurate but it's much much better than any singular and potentially biased poll.

I think for a guy like moviebob he is a closed minded person who made up his mind on everything back in 2014 and hasn't looked back since.
