When NASA announced the shuttle program back in the 70’s, the subtext most people didn’t realize was that we were abandoning the capability to put human being more than 200-300 miles up from earth’s surface. The moon is 230,000ish miles up.

Then the Obama admin decided to shut down even the shuttle program, and we were cucked into asking the Russians to bring our astronauts to the ISS.

Elon Musk is the sole reason we’re dominant in space programs again.
No, Musk won a contract he didn't deserve. He's far from the only game in town. Truly the guy who keeps blowing up rockets and has never launched anything out of LEO is the only hope for space!

Unironically yes. Right now there are two paths for humanity: Elon lays the groundwork for the industry that takes us into space, or the globe is converted into a 24/7 daycare for brown people. You can say it's not fair, and that he doesn't deserve that chance, and that if you had rich parents you could catch a rocket out of the sky too, but that's where we are.

I bet you loved him prior to 2016.
No I used to think he was a reddit fag back then, and as a matter of fact trump and him didn't get along during his first term. He's always been insufferable but he's really ramped it up with his recent grift and started acting like a 13 year old who just found /pol/

Rate me MATI but I'm just tired of an autist who pays to thrust himself into the spotlight at every chance in a cringeworthy manner

Oh look, we edged out China in 2022, cool.

50+ of those are Falcon Heavies.

This comment is retarded on it's face and isn't a realistic view of space travel in general, but all I will ask is when Musk fails to deliver anything over the next decade will you continue simping for him?

You either live long enough to find /pol/, or you die a faggot.

the shuttle program was originally intended to be the sucessor to the apollo program, with a fleet of like 50 shuttles operating from like 5 different launch locations and creating a backbone of space infrastructure that would have allowed for the creation of an orbital refueling station and then a lunar base. they pretty much gave up on all of that including the space station because it was an unmitigated logistical disaster and one of the biggest technical fuckups of the entire century. They constantly had to tone back the goals of the program because it was way more expensive than they ever anticipated and they never developed any magic technology to solve the technical hurdles like they expected. 30 years later, after the soviet union collapsed, the only way they were able to piece together a space station was by working together with privatized remnants of the soviet space program AND the ESA AND fucking china, because they didn't have the resources or money to do it themselves (because they were spending it all on a spaceship made of porcelain)

the subtext wasn't that they were giving up capability it was that they had to justify the egregious cost overruns and design bloat of a trillion dollar program that was failing to meet any of its goals and legitimately never did. also it kept blowing up, don't forget that

Yeah pretty much this. I was watching JRE last night while working on some other stuff and I was mentally thinking that this guy is one of the wealthiest people in the world and he's takes pride in being the most prolific shitposter ever. It doesn't translate well to politics though and you can see his nerves come out when he speaks in front of a large crowd like that.

And in the end, there were like what, six or seven shuttles, one a non operable demonstrator, and three of them broke up in reentry? Broke up in reentry from low earth orbit, even.

but his personal life is a trash fire.
he's autistic his personal life can't be anything but a trash fire. at least he fucks attractive women and can get them cosplaying his nerdy fantasies.
I feel like that’s Null with Musk.
more like autistic person and 99% less autistic person. you know all that bullshit David Foster Wallace said about the word needing more earnest sincerity? Well Musk is leading the drive on that the same way he is leading the charge to space or electric vehicles
s it gay and corny? Yeah, like a motherfucker. But shit. It reminds me how fun it used to be to be patriotic.
exactly my friends @Fag Albert @Tablet County and @Xenomorphs Are Cute all love this video Elon Musk tweeted because it was corny but he was willing to put himself out there by posting it.
