Could be a contributing factor but I'll always equate it to the old movie A Face in the Crowd, which you can watch on Tubi now. Seriously great movie. The plot is Andy Grifith plays a drifter and stumbles into a broadcasting career. He's loved by the audience, he can whip them into a fervor. It all goes to his head and he becomes an egomaniac piece of shit. Then it all crashes when the audience hears him on a hot mic calling them idiots.

Having a massive sphere of influence is a great power, e-celebs that fall in the shock jock genre have to be careful because part of the entertainment is to be an asshole to people including your audience. But eventually you can get so used to being an asshole that you wind up turning your adoring fans into haters.

Nick is different from Ralph because I don't think a single person thought Ralph was ever a decent person, he was an entertaining instigator. Nick by contrast had an image of a knowledgeable lawyer and religious family man. Nick would be considered someone who "had it all." To witness him throw it all away all for cheap debauchery and a crippling drug addiction is a real horror show.

I have to say here, and I'm not picking on you in particular, but more than once I posted evidence that Bob Rekieta bought the slasher-film-villains painting before Nick acquired it, and that makes me wonder how much of Nick's own money went into any of those shitty paintings.

I don't doubt that Nick would blow money on them, but I'm just offering data that maybe some of the waste was on the part of his parents.
