Might be a retarded question since I'm not too familiar with the series, but why are they calling it Mass Effect 5? I thought Andromeda was supposed to be its own thing, not a mainline sequel.

Because it's gonna be the fifth Mass Effect game, and since the official title hasn't been revealed, it makes sense to call it that.

Yeah, I guess it's really just that simple. Only struck me as odd because I would expect them to posthumously downplay the failure of Andromeda by memory-holing it as an inconsequential side game, while generating some pre-production hype for the next installment as that True & Honest sequel to the original trilogy that fans have been waiting for, a true return to form, etc...

The game is still in pre-production. Meaning that they're still coming up with the characters, setting, story, etc. "Mass Effect 5" is the name the project is currently called, but we can expect this to change when they finally have an official title.

I am personally partial to Donal and Melania Triumphant. Made characters with those names in a fantasy MMORPG shortly after 2016 and had fun getting many among the rainbow mental illness players sputtering and sending me angry HOW DARE YOU messages just from standing in a corner and activating the dance action.
Maybe I should log back in and do that again, as I also have a character named Elon March...

I really liked what I saw of the video, he seems to be a good critic.
Too bad about the gross tranny voice, it makes it completely unwatchable. Which is disappointing, cause he seems to have some other interesting videos on his channel

I am still seething about how they essentially nuked the entirety of southern Thedas off-screen to justify not importing any choices whatsoever, as if we needed things taken to that comical of an extreme.

They kind of did have liches in previous Dragon Age games. Or at least Dragon Age Origins with the Arcane Horrors and Revenants which were powerful demons possessing corpses.
Necromancy confuses me in dragon age anyways. Because they plant spirits into bones to animate them, now they can bring people back to life from whatever afterlife people have.
What is the point of using spirits then? Why not just bring back Andraste or whomever with necromancy? The magister (who did nothing wrong!) from the Netflix show was able to bring back a slave to life so why do people just not do that?
Then if southern Thedas was trashed by darkspawn, why is Morrigan so chill? Aren't most of her friends/family living there? Shouldn't everyone be preparing for the massive invasion of darkspawn from the south after the end of the game?
This game's lore is a complete mess that contradicts most of the previous works. It really is the Pixar parody of Dragon Age.
They did not need to make another save the world scenario for this game. People who already played the series had saved the world at least twice.
They could just had the story be about hunting Solas across Thedas.
Or have the story about the Qunari doing a grand invasion of Thedas. With Tevinter and Orlais about to have a civil war it would be the good time for the Qunari to invade.
