I really don't see how the woman was in the wrong here at all. All she did was ring his doorbell. He did not have a "No Solicitors" sign or anything similar. If he didn't want to speak to her or if he was afraid she was going to hurt him, he could have just not opened the door. She was not a threat to him in any way. And he opened the door and immediately sprayed her, knocked her down, and took her phone and broke it. You don't get to attack people just because they ring your doorbell.
