History seems to be repeating itself. Stalin had similar complaints that German communists were too left-wing, too incompetent and degenerate, so he support the Socialist Reich Party in West Germany (the legal successor to the Nazi Party). He also forced the SED to allow nazis to join their ranks, and have their own party called the
National Democratic Party of Germany (NDPD). The SED went even as far as inviting Otto Strasser to join their government.
Economic communism turned out to be a failure, and since they can't defend their legacy after the revolutions of 1989, they have nothing else to run on besides riding the coattails of liberal social policy to stay relevant. Their obsession with "anti-fascism" is essentially that. Pretty much every socialist party in the West is in this dilemma because of how dependent they were on the Soviet Union for directives and financial support.
