Warhammer 40k

I'd be fine if it was just the Nurglings that were like that, and the cruelty just scales up as the daemons get bigger. Oh sure, the Great Unclean One is clearly having a great time but that's because it's watching an entire colony literally puking it's guts out from a plague. And there's a reason my appreciation of The Purge over the Death Guard grows more & more as more normies catch wind of Warhammer.
Exactly, was considering mentioning The Purge given how much closer they come/came to the OG Death Guard little baby holden remembers from yore.

Speaking of which back when I was straight up a fetus in the late 90s, the first Chaos shit I saw in the source books/white dwarves my father left unattended were Nurgle Daemons and Plague Marines and I distinctly remember being both freaked out and intrigued even as a literal 4-5 year old, and im pretty sure I was unironically having a couple of nightmares of plaguebearers in particular at one point after I had some of the lore vaguely explained to me (i.e. that they were almost unkillable and anyone who got cut by their swords wound up going to super plague hell and that included my beloved late 2nd edition spess mehreens).

I think there was something about the idea of rotting corpse demons with rusty swords being able to easily gank walking tank sci-fi supersoldiers that first made clear to me how fucked the setting was compared to what was previously the edgiest the shit I was exposed to (i.e. Thomas the Tank Engine), which was a pretty good jumping off point to gorge my infant self on all the other gloriously edgetard lore of the era I could get my tiny hands on.

EDIT: Come to think of it, the reason Nurgle shit stood out so much to foetal holden was probably because Slaanesh shit went waaaaaaaay over my head, Tzeentch shit was just fun colored burd/gremlin wizard stuff, and Khorne's "angry barbarian" shit basically just looked and sounded like just the same shit everyone was doing, only red and spiky.

Gw is in a critical stage. They've been filing down the edges for years, space marine 2 uses tzeentchian chaos since it's the least likely to offend the normies. Slaanesh and the emperors children will be a good assessment of their intentions.

We will see if they keep it up. Silver lining is their stock is going gangbusters so I can just squirrel the $ there instead of buying anything disneyfied.

Does anyone have a link to a wiki page or something that has all the player portraits from Rogue Trader? A lot of them look pretty cool, but every search engine is completely useless and shows me portraits of other characters or custom shit.

I couldn't find an actual webpage with the portraits, but if you own the Deluxe Pack dlc you can get the portraits from the digital art book.

If they make the Slaanesh aspects of the Emperor's Children akin to what they're doing with the Hedonites in AoS, expect more Clive Barker-esque body horror. I know less eyes are on AoS and The Old World, but the stuff they've added through the Hedonites has been great. My favorite is the daemons using some dude as a harp with their skin & muscles as the harp strings.

Gonna drop what I have just realised is probably an unpopular opinion about muh lore.

Nurgle and his forces being largely depicted as goofy and lovable if icky scamps who occasionally get icky-spooky is fucking cringe. I get the old lore of them being resentful and bitter monsters who had the shallow veneer of cruel humour and very occasional backhanded affection was not exactly concrete or well developed, and there is still an attempt to balance the silly shit with spooky shit in currentday, but going full "lol giggling farting demons going poopoo and gimmick loving green chungus marines who want to give stinky hugs to all their guardsmen frens" and then switching to something like Typhus going full sadist edgelord just does not work for me.

Read Lords of Silence if you wanna see how modern Death Guard operate.

I liked the Death Guard’s depiction during the Siege of Terra where the Nurglings saw use as radios and Caipha dryly notes that they had to call him Typhus. Just the fact that his name change was an enforced order is funny.
Lords of Silence is a great novel but it still has Vorx being le heckin wholesome chungus with his pet nurgling.

The story about the PDF officer in it is awesome though.
If you had, you would know Vorx isn’t that, it’s a front. He’s a deceptively sharp player of the game. That whole book is character-correction for the DG, returning them to the bitter monsters.

That kind of lends to the best depiction of DG, at least to me. An affable front that belies that monster underneath, very similar to Granpop Nurgle taking away the pain from his rotting carcasses space marines, but theyre still aware of the rot that infests them. It still bothers them and leads to a deep-seated resentment of their situation and station in life. Even their Primarch isnt safe.

the Fabius Bile books has a DG apothecary in it thats like that. Hes very friendly on the surface and loves Pop Nurg, but is also using his skills as an apothecary to craft incredibly deadly viruses and diseases.

I agree, like I said its a great book. Maybe just the description of the nurglings doing things like "liquid farts" felt childish to me, it wasn't a problem I had with Vorx in particular.

Speaking of Vorx, one of my favourite stories in all of 40k is Unification. Vorx kills a Blood Angel during the siege of Terra who was a dickhead during the crusade. Such a satisfying short story.

This, Typhus and his followers are the “old school” DG that are just Heresy-style ruthless killers, I imagine the “affable” ones are the Mortarion followers. Dragan, Vorx’s right hand man lent himself more towards the Typhus half of the legion.

Tbh, I'm hoping that's what they go for. I do enjoy the classic depiction of Noise Marines as glam-rock psychos with flashy armor, guitar bolters, and dubstep cannons, but I'd really like to see them lean more into the Hellraiser side of things. The Heresy-era EC were already getting so jaded and numb to new sensations that they needed to be gutted by chainswords or slice their own faces off just to feel something, so they should really be even more depraved after 10,000 years of exploration in the further regions of experience.

Leading rumour from that ingrate Valrak (so don’t take it as gospel) is it will be both, a legionary-like 10 man kit and separate 6 man noise marine kits. Apparently it will just be new infantry, Lucius, Fulgrim, a palatine blades equivalent (think Eightbound role) and a chaos lord. Honestly I believe it.

In the novels (the advertising) they’ve distinctly rewrote the EC to not be all noise marines like the DG are all plague marines and the WE are berserkers. This has consistently become their internal dynamic for years now, most importantly in the works this year (which are definitely advertising for the army) both position noise marines as a sub-cult within the legion, more like Obliterators in the IW, Raptors in the NL and Possessed in the WB.

I hope the generic chaos lord takes ques from Xantine, I listened to the audiobook and I kinda like this idiot more now.

This layout for the EC’s army tracks with Chaos getting reshuffled to be more like Slaves to Darkness and daemons losing their separate army status, getting folded into their respective legion’s list, it also makes the WE launch make more sense.

I bought the Knight Acheron and need a paint scheme. I was thinking over the top patriotic for the Imperium. Does anyone have any ideas?

Your local Eldar player, here to remind the younger players that in WH40K, if ever there was a "good guys" faction looking out for the little man or just being paragons of justice, they either got wiped out by humanity's Great Crusade, or were ass-reamed by a chaos god, or were captured by the Drukhari and made to provide power and energy through eternal suffering.
Subhuman knife ear hands typed this no one's going to fall for your disgusting subhuman alien filth ideology you created gayness

That sounds perfectly plausible and more or less lines up with what I was expecting. Guess we'll find out soon.
