Exactly, was considering mentioning The Purge given how much closer they come/came to the OG Death Guard little baby holden remembers from yore.I'd be fine if it was just the Nurglings that were like that, and the cruelty just scales up as the daemons get bigger. Oh sure, the Great Unclean One is clearly having a great time but that's because it's watching an entire colony literally puking it's guts out from a plague. And there's a reason my appreciation of The Purge over the Death Guard grows more & more as more normies catch wind of Warhammer.
Speaking of which back when I was straight up a fetus in the late 90s, the first Chaos shit I saw in the source books/white dwarves my father left unattended were Nurgle Daemons and Plague Marines and I distinctly remember being both freaked out and intrigued even as a literal 4-5 year old, and im pretty sure I was unironically having a couple of nightmares of plaguebearers in particular at one point after I had some of the lore vaguely explained to me (i.e. that they were almost unkillable and anyone who got cut by their swords wound up going to super plague hell and that included my beloved late 2nd edition spess mehreens).
I think there was something about the idea of rotting corpse demons with rusty swords being able to easily gank walking tank sci-fi supersoldiers that first made clear to me how fucked the setting was compared to what was previously the edgiest the shit I was exposed to (i.e. Thomas the Tank Engine), which was a pretty good jumping off point to gorge my infant self on all the other gloriously edgetard lore of the era I could get my tiny hands on.
EDIT: Come to think of it, the reason Nurgle shit stood out so much to foetal holden was probably because Slaanesh shit went waaaaaaaay over my head, Tzeentch shit was just fun colored burd/gremlin wizard stuff, and Khorne's "angry barbarian" shit basically just looked and sounded like just the same shit everyone was doing, only red and spiky.
