I just want to go on record as saying I think the recent insanity from Nick on Melton's stream and the Twitter stuff are some kind of 400IQ plot by Nick. I do think he probably accessed Aaron's account, but I think a lot of what's going on is a big performance. I was wondering if Nick copied Aaron's google activity with his own google account and then posted a screenshot of that so that technically he didn't actually post Aaron's internet history, but Aaron would recognize it. That could be why the profile pic is scribbled out. It seems like the kind of thing he would do thinking he could avoid charges.

The whole thing is retarded and he's probably going to get himself in more trouble but I think it was supposed to be a big gotcha. Maybe a big performance so that later he could say it was all an act, and then imply the coke stream was theatre as well.

State charges aren't "upped" to federal charges because they're two entirely different things. Under the separate sovereigns doctrine, Nick could be prosecuted by both the state and the feds, and then there's generally a procedural dance about who gets to go first or if they can both proceed at the same time. Then there's the issue of who gets to punish first, i.e. whether you go to state prison then federal prison or the other way around.

Conceivably, Melton's state and Minnesota could prosecute every single one of these clowns alongside the feds.

In reality, I don't think the feds are going to be interested. While this is a serious crime even on the federal level, Minnesota has a lot more interest in it, because the even more serious crime is the witness intimidation shit, and that involves a case in Minnesota. The effects of the crimes occurred in Minnesota, so it's the natural and most likely venue.

tl;dr while there is federal jurisdiction it's unlikely there is federal interest.
