I'm not particularly a fan of this kind of "prison justice" because a lot of it just perpetuates cycles of abuse and inadvertently ends up with people who aren't actually terrible people either becoming terrible people because of that environment or suffering at the hands of it (besides the fact that some small percentage of people convicted for crimes are either wholly innocent and a somewhat larger percent have been given completely disproportionate sentences compared to the crime they committed). It also leaves open the window for chinese whispers and false accusations to happen within prisons.

I mean these are obviously people who took sick pleasure in harming defenseless creatures but there's usually very little uproar about the sentences that white collar criminals receive that cause people to go into financial ruin and cause dozens of families to be harmed and numerous suicides. Those white collar crimes can have just as bad of an impact on society because they're not just harming a small handful of people but thousands or even millions of people (I know that is debatable though and its hard to compare these two types of crimes)

I'm not saying I know what the answer is when it comes to reprehensible people like these, more so that I am just personally cautious about applauding that kind of stuff because even though it may be poetic justice and satisfying it really just becomes a form of extrajudicial punishment for things - I don't know if these people can be fixed or what the solution is. It's sort of like why some people do not agree with the death penalty - because if you agree with it you basically in essence agree that the government never makes mistakes and innocent people do not get put to death. The government is always generally going to be incompetent.

They generally do. But there is a classic mad magazine comic where there are people with donation tins on the street and the one that always gets the money above the blind or crippled or war vets is animals. I guess it is because out of everyone they are the most defenseless.

On October 23 there was another arrest in Taiwan from a woman who uploaded videos of monkey torture. The only source is Lady Freethinker and it doesn't give a name, if someone can find an article in Chinese that would be helpful:

TAIWANESE WOMAN CRIMINALLY INVESTIGATED FOR UPLOADING ANIMAL ABUSE VIDEOS TO FACEBOOK​

A woman has been investigated following action by the Taiwan SPCA, who was alerted earlier this year by Lady Freethinker and Action for Primates about a suspect allegedly uploading videos showing the abuse and killing of macaques to private Facebook groups. The content was extremely gruesome and violent, including acts such as setting fire to the animals, cutting off their lips, and beating them with weapons. The cruelty of the actions was shocking. After receiving the report, the Taiwan SPCA immediately filed a complaint with the Taipei City Criminal Investigation Division, providing relevant evidence and requesting police intervention to investigate.

In less than two months, the police located the perpetrator and discovered during the investigation that she had uploaded a total of 26 videos of animal abuse for others to view. Her actions were in violation of Articles 25 and 27-1 of the Animal Protection Act, and the case was subsequently referred to the prosecutor’s office. Although the perpetrator admitted to the crime and confessed that she had reshared animal abuse videos found on platforms Telegram and Bilibili, she was granted a deferred prosecution of one year and fined NT$30,000 due to her cooperative attitude and lack of prior criminal record.

Taiwan SPCA’s Executive Director Connie Chiang states: “We are grateful to the authorities for their proactive handling of this case. Although these videos were not filmed in Taiwan, deliberately sharing them for others to watch encourages similar criminal behavior and should not be taken lightly. We are deeply concerned about the welfare of the animals in the videos, but if the abuse occurred abroad, our current option is to continue seeking help from organizations in other countries. One major challenge in online cases is that some social media companies do not cooperate with police investigations. If these platforms do not provide user IP addresses or basic information, it becomes extremely difficult to trace those involved.”

International animal protection groups also issued statements regarding this case: “Action for Primates and Lady Freethinker, who alerted (Taiwan SPCA) to the activities of the Taiwanese woman, welcome the action taken by the authorities in Taiwan against this individual for posting graphic and obscene monkey torture videos on Facebook. People involved in distributing such horrific online content depicting the cruel and sadistic abuse and killing of baby monkeys must be held accountable, and it is untenable that Meta should tolerate the existence of such individuals and groups on its platform. We hope that the involvement of law enforcement will be a deterrent to others involved in or thinking of posting similar obscene content on social media platforms. We also appeal to Meta and other social media companies to take immediate action to stop the distribution of animal torture content from being posted on their platforms.”

I'm not going to debate the death penalty with you on this thread, but there's no fixing those kinds of people. normal people don't abuse animals just like how normal people don't abuse children.

The lady that I used took a guilty plea, meaning SHE DID IT. Before you say, oh but the government forced her hand, that's the same kind of thinking pedophiles use.

just because I agree with the death penalty doesn't mean I support the government wholeheartedly no matter what. I actually think quite the opposite. However, I think it should be reserved for specific people.

They’re like pedophiles. They cannot and will not change. The only true solution would be removing them from the planet. Therapy doesn’t work. Nothing does. I don’t care about why they do the things they do anymore, or what they’ve been through. People go through horrific things and don’t just start being pedos and getting off to animal torture. You say that, but at the same time fail to realize that the exact same kind of mindset that does securities fraud or white collar crime is what enabled the crime we're discussing here in the first place: social media didn't magically materialize overnight. It came about because people leading those companies ignored all the safety warnings, all the privacy warnings, hired people to make these products be as deliberately addictive as possible and pretty objectively made society worse.

Who would you say is the worse person? Some woman who paid to get monkeys tortured, Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, Google, TikTok or what about the ChatGPT/AI faggots that are once again ignoring all the safety and privacy warnings and probably going to heavily contribute to widespread unemployment, social instability as well as inevitably add to the pile of people helplessly addicted to getting dopamine hits through their smartphone from seeing a poor defenseless animal being harmed?

It's not like animal abuse and animal abuse videos didn't happen before but there is 100% a connection with this "new" level of animal abuse and social media. To be fair to you, I didn't really call out this specific connection in my initial post that you replied to because society doesn't currently call Mark Zuckerberg a "criminal".
