I bought webfishing when it first came out because chill fishing game and it was less than $5.

And... It's bad.

First time I played it was fine and was chatting about movies and other random shit like that. Except for a gay guy who talked about penises for an hour. That's when I discovered the chat hide function. Then I noticed over the course of 2 hours I went from 165fps to sub 20. I go to steam discussions seeing if there's a fix and....wewlad. Several threads asking for estrogen and other ways to further sexualize the game to be added. Any thread pointing out this kinda insanity gets dogpiled.

Next day I pop on and largely ignore chat as it again goes from 165fps to sub 20. Game has a massive goddamn memory leak on top of everything else.


Tldr: chilled out fun idea for a game that's poorly made and completely ruined by freaks.

I saw this game on Instagram and thought it was a cute concept I might be able to play casually with some friends I don't get to see a lot due to them moving and such, just to catch up and chat while doing something not intense together, but what made me hold off is exactly the art direction of the game.
Precisely because this is the exact thing troons and groomers (same difference) love to hook into while skinwalking as an "alt & quirky" ewhore.

Wow, I've never played on a public server in that game before and never even considered it, but yeah this is like the perfect grooming tool for these freaks. Its cheap, can run on any PC, and has no sort of real filtering system for keeping underaged players away from these types. It's overwhelmingly positive because the only people who will buy this are people who know what they want from it. The only people who can review it are those who buy it. They buy it to gain access into a massive furry ERP chatroom. It is literally all homosexuals - it's furries. The game is (whether purposefully or not) practically designed to be an ERP/Grooming haven with the animal crossing esque graphics and its G rated nature as a fishing game with no inherent sex or violence. It's a perfect shitshow and I guess just a little yang for the yin of how things have seemed to started going better recently.

Not playing in public you did miss a funny duplication bug. Someone sent me 19 full stacks of beer and I can't get rid of them even by giving away. So of course I ask if anyone wants beer and then give all of them their own 19 stacks.

I think it's fixed now but you used to have to open a hex editor to fix it.

The game in it of itself concept wise is not new or novel, but it's a neat concept I'll give him that. A social enviroment where you have things to do and chill. The problem stems from the community he chooses to pander to. If he broadens his scope the game can still survive.

I honestly like "straight" as a title. Quotation marks included. Issue is that it's not all lgbtq humor. It's literally just.. titles. "Lesbian". That's it, no fun. Just, hey I'm here and looking to dat- fish. But straight? Hetero? Nah that's off the table. I'm sure he didn't intend it but it literally gave way for a normalization of straight people not being part of the culture of the game (thankfully, honestly).

Some people like boring. Like stardew valley (don't yell at me for this pls ) or idk... candy crush. Pragmatically speaking every game has a target audience.

For example, I like turn based combat, post apocalyptic settings, resource management and overly complicated immersive gameplay (underrail, rimworld, they are billions, fallout NV etc), but another person might find the games boring and/or frustrating.

But maybe if I boot up animal crossing or this fishing game, I'll find it boring and/or frustrating.

Theres a reason why concord failed. And this game is falling for a similar trap hook, line and sinker (pun intended)

The dev can turn this around if he dissasociates from emotionally broken faggots and focuses solely on the game being approachable to a wider audience.

Tried out the game. As a game in and of itself it's not that bad, if you ignore tons of faggot virtue signalling (extra titles, cosmetics, catch comments, etc). The lobbies are also chill for the most part, in the 10 hours (this game is a massive time sink, damn) I played it, I have only encountered one lobby that's been explicitly horny. Maybe this has something to do with me being in Europe? Hovever, there's a massive memory leak: after 2-3 hours of gameplay the game blew up to 4 GiB in RAM, which for a game this simple is unacceptable. If you're in a lobby with 8+ people in the same area, expect your FPS to drop to single-digit values (mine constantly fluctuated between 5-20 FPS).

Overall: potentially good game ruined by fags and incompetency.

The biggest issue posed by this game is the fact that in targeting the LGBT community LGBT youth are going to gravitate to it regardless of the dev's intent. LGBT youth are typically more vulnerable than other youths and bad people will flock to anywhere they can find vulnerable people. How do you solve this? Again I don't know, but it's not a problem unique to this game.

It's an eternal problem, one that has no easy solution, but transparency goes a long way. It doesn't help that the especially vulnerable flock to the same kind of garbage as maladjusted weirdos and that's one of the larger problems because no one is watching what goes on. Other spaces, IRL mostly, don't have the same problems as long as 80% of the people are above board. It's when it dips that you get Magic:the Gathering or a smash tourney situation.

Edit: it's also not just LGB youth, it's the whole incel pipeline and a few other marginal groups as well. And shutting down the whole thing doesn't solve it because they'd all just kill themselves otherwise. There's a very precarious relationship here, one that goes unnoticed until it goes wrong.

As a game developer it's really discouraging to see the precautions you have to take to prevent your game from becoming a child grooming hub just in order to have online interactions between players.
You used to be able to just run with basic profanity filters and the community would police itself, but now you have to do all this shit or it spirals out of control.
Unironically makes me never want to make another game knowing that whatever I make will get drowned in troonslop targeted to children and a thousand Earthbound-like RPGs about depression or some shit that were made in RPGMaker that week.
